This week: Labonte plans to spend the week off with his family. "All of the teams really need a break," said Labonte, who has posted only one top-10 finish in 2008. "I know how hard our guys have been working, and they need a long weekend with their families."
Last week: A late-race spin ended any hopes Labonte had of posting a top-15 finish. Instead, he finished 29th. "With this being the first night race at Chicago, none of the teams were really sure what the track conditions would be like," Labonte said. "Our car was way too tight, especially in the middle of the corners. It was better in the middle of the race, but then it went away again. We made a lot of adjustments, but the car just didn't respond."
Etc.: Michael Bartelli has been named senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Petty Enterprises and the Richard Petty Driving Experience. "We are excited to have a marketing executive of Mike's acumen and reputation join us," said David Zucker, CEO of Petty Enterprises.
