NASCAR can produce some fun partnerships between sponsor and driver, but it's doubtful that anyone foresaw Mike Bliss driving a car with rapper 50 Cent's face on the quarterpanels.
Street King, 50 Cent's energy drink, has sponsored Bliss and FAS Lane Racing at Chicago and Dover, and is listed as the sponsor on the entry list for Kansas.
Bliss, the 2002 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion has found a home (for now) with FAS Lane Racing after bouncing around multiple rides in the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series in the past few years.
It's a funny driver-team partnership to think about with team owner Frankie Stoddard's thick New England accent and Bliss, 46, who doesn't seem like the type of driver who listens to 50 Cent. But hey, maybe Fiddy wanted to try to make a dent in the NASCAR energy drink sponsorship market, which is resembling the oil company sponsorship market in the '80s and '90s. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is sponsored by Amp Energy, Kyle Busch is sponsored by NOS, Steven Wallace -- and next year, Clint Bowyer -- is with Five Hour Energy, Ricky Carmichael is sponsored by Monster and Robby Gordon has his own energy drink, Speed Energy, on the hood of his car. Plus, Red Bull owns and sponsors the cars of Kasey Kahne and Brian Vickers -- at least until the end of this year, when they're looking to sell or close up shop.
Will we see Bliss in da club anytime soon? Probably not. But at Dover, we saw the car in da wall.
(Yeah, that was bad.)
