Michael McDowell: Lived to tell about it

Tony Stewart said Michael McDowell's wreck Friday during qualifying for the Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway was the hardest crash he's ever seen. And it's difficult to argue with him.

The crazy thing is, McDowell actually walked away from this wreck with nothing more than a minor limp, then went and did a T.V. interview and acted as though he'd just been in a minor fender-bender. Check it out below (it starts at 20 seconds):

How would you react if this happened to you?

I counted ten flips but you might be right. I might of counted one that was just a 360 with a .25 flip or something. But wow what a wreck, I can't believe he got out and walked away from that and 15 mins. later he did an interview I couldn't believe it was the same guy, wow. The car of today has proved itself without a doubt.

Superx3, it wouldn't matter if it was a Toyota, Dodge, Ford or Chevy. That wreck was going to happen regardless of the make of the car. Get real!

By the grace of God and great people of NASCAR that a guy, the same age as me, gets to live another day because of great advances such as safe barriers and many other in-car improvements. Go NASCAR!

That was an amazing wreck and it's great how well the cage held up. But it was 8 flips. He flipped onto his roof and slid on it for a while then went over 7.5 more times.

I only counted 7 flips. He flipped onto his top and slid for a while but when the car actually started to flip it was only 7 times. I counted the times that the bottom of the car came around and was on top. The amin thing is that he is ok but I still trying to figure out how some of you counted 10-15 flips.

Yikes...That was definitely some crash. NASCAR really has upped the safety advances for that guy to just walk away like that. Makes you wonder if the boys in Formula One and IRL and Champcar were watching, huh? After all, they hit pretty dangerous speeds themselves. Taking a few advances from NASCAR may give them a better survivability edge, maybe.
