Who, man? Newman!

Congratulations to Ryan Newman, winner of the 50th Daytona 500. Newman ran a hell of a race all the way, slotting right in behind Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch and getting the right line to lead at precisely the right time.

There will be plenty of questions tomorrow, chief among them why Dale Junior didn't pit when he had the opportunities, but for now, we can say that this may not have been the best Daytona ever, but it was, as always, a great finish.

Tune in to Y! Sports on Wednesday for Newman's column. You think he'll talk about this? I do.

(PS Yes, I changed the headline from "Hello, Newman." Sue me; I was on deadline.)

This comment is for my favorite driver "Juan Pablo Montoya", What Happened?, 2nd under caution
With 16 laps to go, then in a blink of an eye, he is way back. His car may have had a problem, or is it maybe Juan?.. his car seemed to me was capable of winning the race.

Rick Hendrick should have never let go of Kyle Busch. If he were in his old Hendrick car tonight he or Dale Junior could of finished in the top 5 or even won the race (assuming that Jr. would have pitted when he was supposed to). Casey Mears is a good driver, but he definitely choked tonight. He hesitated when he was trying to slide up the race track with only a few laps left and took himself out of the race. Rick Hendrick picked the wrong driver to make room for Dale Jr.

Congrats.. it was good to see an American auto maker win... in these hard economic times you think there would be more support for the "Big 3" from Nascar... Toyota in Nascar... what are you thinking?

Toyota's that are sold in America are built in America. I welcome the competition- however, I'm real happy for The Dodge Boys, having been a mgr. in a Dodge dealership in my early career. Congrats to Ryan Newman and Penske!

The sport will be dominated by foreign car companies in 4 years. Can't wait till the Europeans get in there. Cya Ford and Chevy. Dodge will hang in there. Out with the old. In with the new. Change is GREAT! Woot.

O,,I totally disagree, after kyle buschs' post race comments,i can see why rick hendrick let him go,he doesn't understand the word TEAM,.....after the race all he could complain about was how he didn't like the restart, and he thought there was regulations about the leader "hanging back",what did he expect nascar to do,restart the restart, beacause KYLE didn't like it?...he never gave thanks to his crew for keeping him out front all night even after HIS messup on pit road,...I used to be a kyle busch fan until last year when he left the track but his car was ready to back out and dalejr. had to drive it,don't leave unless your'e crew chief say's it cant go back out..there is a fine line between being agressive and dangerous, and i think kyle busch has crossed that line

O - I totally agree with your comments, Rick should have let Mears go, nice guy, but no comparison to Kyle!!! I expect some great races from Kyle this year.
chuck d - you kinda took the wind outa my sail. Kyle has a lot of growing to do. But I love his determintion and I don't think he's dangerous. He does know how to wheel that car!!!

Commet No 11, you are so right. Just because the camary is assembled in America, the Toytota auto makers reap all the benefits (profits) as soon as Toyota starts winning in years to come, you will starting seeing more and more japan products going to other teams. Soon you will start seeing mostly Toyota's and less of Fords, Dodges, and Chevys. I am so glad Newman won and Kurt came in second and Tony came in thrid in is Toyota. I really hope Toyota never wins a Cup race

Tony is not a team guy and cost his team by being Tony. While under the yellow the TV crew said Tony will leave his team mate and guess what.

#10 You don't know the whole story on that Kyle leaving the trackj and Jr. driving his car for him. They had just learned with in the team that he was out of a job. He cshowed them when he still race fast and hard for the rest of the season. He still lost his job. Casey can't hold that Kelogg's car and Junior can't beat him. I was not a Kyle fan until he got screwed! Now I hope He kicked butt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to Newman! Like Smoke himself, I'm a Newman fan as well. Newman & Busch simply outsmarted & outdrove the rest of the field in the final 16 laps. They put themselves in position to win with 3 to go.
Kurt Busch kept shooting himself in the foot all day long but it was clear he had a strong car. Don't let his comments fool you. He was able to race through the field time & again.

people people, who care's if toyota, honda, what ever the car is, if the american car is that good they'll win. A race is a race . whatever they race let then race,It's still a car. Race horse's and mule's, maybe sometime the mule will win. So be it. If your that good you win, what are you afraid of? That the Toyota might make the ford ,chevy, look bad? let's see who's really better.
