Who would have thought that Group A was going to be the toughest group in the NASCAR World Cup?

Kurt Busch would have put himself in a great position to advance to the round of 16 against any other driver in the field, but he was facing Juan Pablo Montoya at Watkins Glen. That misfortune dropped Busch to 1-2 and third place in the group. More surprising than that, however, was Brad Keselowski's win of the group despite losing to Mark Martin at the Glen. Since Busch lost, Keselowski clinched the group win with the best finish differential.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. lost out to AJ Allmendinger at Watkins Glen and fell to 1-2 as well, and he'll miss out on the round of 16. David Reutimann continued his slide after Chicagoland, finishing 0-3 in Group G to Denny Hamlin, Paul Menard and David Ragan. Hamlin needed the second tiebreaker to win G after he Menard and Ragan all finished 2-1. The unlucky one of the three was Menard, as his finish differential of 5 left him out of the next round.

Greg Biffle will also miss out on the tournament despite a third-place finish at Indianapolis and a win at Pocono. Biffle got shuffled back to 25th from eighth on a restart in turn one on Sunday and that sealed his fate in a loss to Kevin Harvick.

The full tournament bracket can be found here, and the final group standings are after the jump.
