From the Marbles - NASCAR

This is the first in a series of posts detailing the groups for The Marbles' NASCAR World Cup. If you're unfamiliar with the format, here's a primer. We'll reveal two groups per day, so check back later for your preview of Group B. Here's a teaser: It's our Group of Death.

Group A: Kurt Busch, Mark Martin, Juan Pablo Montoya, Brad Keselowski.

Indianapolis: Busch vs. Martin, Montoya vs. Keselowski. Pocono: Busch vs. Keselowski, Martin vs. Montoya. Watkins Glen: Busch vs. Montoya, Martin vs. Keselowski.

Montoya could be the definite sleeper of Group A, especially if he can duplicate his performance at Indianapolis -- minus the speeding penalty of course -- and avoid a "fight" at Watkins Glen with Kevin Harvick. If Montoya does well and grabs a playoff spot, it's probably going to be at Martin's expense, as Kurt Busch could be 2-0 by the time he has to match up with Montoya at Watkins Glen. If this was the Nationwide Series, Keselowski would be considered the favorite to win it all. Instead, he's going to have to look for three upsets. Probably not going to happen.

Jay's Picks: Winner: Kurt Busch -- He's always a threat to finish high in any race, and he's a solid bet to win the entire NASCAR World Cup. He takes this group in a walk. Well, not in a walk, but you know what I mean.

To Advance: Juan Pablo Montoya -- Whatever luck Martin had last year is long gone. And Montoya is always a threat to wreck out early, but head-to-head I'll take him over Martin. Blasphemy, I know. But he should definitely still apologize about that driving-lessons crack.

Nick's Picks: Winner: Kurt Busch --There's no reason to pick against him, and while he's not the greatest driver on road courses, he'll probably be 2-0 by the time he gets to the Glen so it'll be a moot point.

To Advance: Juan Pablo Montoya -- I think that the three tracks line up well for Montoya, and I wouldn't be surprised if he won the group. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Montoya go 0-3 despite being fast in every race thanks to some ridiculous screw up during the latter stages of each race.
