Oh my heavens, it's come to this: there's going to be a "NASCAR Wives" reality TV show.

Airing on Jan. 24 at 10pm on TLC, "NASCAR Wives" will follow a bunch of, well, NASCAR wives as they live their lives on, off, and around the track. Spotlighted ladies include Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, Junior's sister; DeLana Harvick (right), Kevin's wife; and Shana Mayfield, Jeremy's wife.

The series will start up for good in the spring with a run of eight to 16 episodes, and will presumably show how wacky and wonderful the lives of the ladies of NASCAR are. (Something we established here seven months ago, as I recall.)

Now, NASCAR is as much about lifestyle as it is about racing, so this is a good way to further cement that perception by reaching out to the reality-TV audience. But since NASCAR Media Group is controlling this, you're probably not going to see any wives catfighting, hurling wrenches at their husbands in the hauler or pitching fits about undercooked potato skins at the local TGI Friday's. (On the plus side, you probably won't be seeing anyone poop on the stairs, either.)

I'll tell you straight-up: I have absolutely no intention of watching "NASCAR Wives," but then I'm not exactly their target demographic. On the other hand, I'm all for anything NASCAR making further inroads into the public consciousness.
