From the Marbles - NASCAR

Ever been watching a NASCAR race and thought, "I wonder how many ads I've seen today." (Followed by a voice in your head saying, "This question brought to you by Castrol.") Well, thank heaven for Caws & Jaws, which has done what none of us dared -- watched races with a laser focus on the commercials. Check out some select stats from Saturday's Budweiser Shootout:

Total number of commercials: 65
Total number of companies or entities advertised: 37
Total minutes of telecast: 107
Minutes of race broadcast: 80
Minutes of commercials: 27

Twenty-seven minutes? Man, that's a lot of commercials. And for those of you interested in seeing which drivers receive the most attention, check out C&J's analysis of driver camera time at select 2007 races. The "focus points" noted below are individual instances in which cameras caught sight of the drivers for enough time to register with viewers.

Car No. / Driver / Focus Total
(24) Jeff Gordon – 928
(48) Jimmie Johnson – 906
(8) Dale Earnhardt Jr. – 763
(20) Tony Stewart – 604
(17) Matt Kenseth – 579
(2) Kurt Busch– 567
(5) Kyle Busch– 566
(11) Denny Hamlin – 507
(1) Martin Truex Jr. – 500
(99) Carl Edwards – 461

Take another look at the top three names on that chart, and let those Hendrick Motorsports conspiracy theories begin!

Well Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon were fighting it out for the championship. Surprise, surprise they top the list. No brainer buddy. You sure seem to miss the obvious.

The top spots are obvious, but Junior wasn't even in the Chase, and he still made #3, by a big margin. Star power trumps Chase points.

Out of curiosity...Where did Mark Martin rank?
I'd like to know for a guy that took off a few weeks of racing.
And since I DVR the races, my commercials only last 2.7 minutes. Ha Ha
You also stated that there was 80 minutes of race broadcast? Does that include the driver intro in the beginning? Cause that wasn't racing to me. From Green to Checker, what was the broadcast time? 65 minutes, maybe?

I can't take any credit for this one--hit the link to the original site and check with them. I think it was green to checker on the time, but I'm not certain. You add in the prerace business, and that's a whole new ballgame...so to speak.

#2 I agree with you. Jr. and Nascar are riding on his Dad's curtails.

If he were really riding Seniors shirt tail as you say, he'd be driving for RCR wouldn't he?
Going to Hendrick gave him the best shot at becoming his own person and getting him closer to that Championship he wants.
He can't help being popular, and couldn't help being mentioned so much during the last quarter of 2007 because of the amount of times the motor blew up.
