From the Marbles - NASCAR

Oh, this is getting good. You already know that Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski have a bit of a history of gettin' all up in each other's business. They've collided a couple of times in the Nationwide series, and Keselowski has been warned about not racing the Chasers too hard. (We'll get to that in a moment.)

In Phoenix this week for an appearance, Hamlin continued to tee off on Keselowski, saying he hadn't even spoken to Jet Ski yet. "No, haven't talked to him at all," said Hamlin. "I don't really think he's man enough to call me face to face. Just don't think it's his style."

Hamlin was incensed by Keselowski's postrace comments in Dover a couple weeks back in which Brad seemed to distance himself from responsibility for their collision. (See for yourself here, and make your own call.)

"How he uses his talent to me is questionable," Hamlin said. "I didn't realize it was in question with every single competitor on the Cup side that has raced with him and talked to me about it. "They said, ‘You know, we don't know what he was doing. It was blatant.' Then, listening to him talk (on TV) and making it sound like he was the victim and I was the one taking advantage of him when I was the one in front of him. Well, it was kind of a ridiculous statement. It showed that he just didn't have much level of maturity at that point."

Keselowski was warned in Kansas after he and Juan Pablo Montoya thumped a bit. "Word came down from the tower to the 25 team to make sure they were aware and cognizant of who he was racing against at this particular point in the race," NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said. "The 25 car had every right to every inch of the track, but we sent the message to make sure you're aware of your surroundings."

For his part, Keselowski laughed off the warning. "I thought he needed to be mindful of me. He's the one who hit me," he said. "I didn't really change the way I raced him. I thought it was kind of funny. To have NASCAR say something ... they were just words, asking us nicely. It would be different if they were black-flagging me."

Here's the thing: people will scream that Chasers shouldn't be given any preferential treatment and this warning radiates conspiracy. But that's not it at all. Keselowski has exactly 12 starts at the Sprint Cup level, and NASCAR was simply reminding him that this wasn't Friday night at the dirt track anymore. Outracing a Chaser is fine; outstrategizing one is more than acceptable. But knocking a Chase driver out of the hunt because you can't yet control your car? That's not a fate I want to see befall anyone, not even the relentless Terminator that is Jimmie Johnson.

Still, we've got the makings of a good rivalry for 2010 and beyond: "Hamster and Jet Ski." Sounds like a crappy morning sports show, doesn't it? But with any luck, it's the future of sparks flying in NASCAR.

Go Jet Ski. I don't think he should back down from any of the drivers on or off the track. Some want to say he is a Jerk. Well maybe so, but he still has a way to go to become the king of Jerks. Not to mention, he only has a couple more races before having to start racing for Penske. Don't think he will be as good with the new team.

After the race Montoya even said that it was just hard racing and it wasn't a big deal to have Brad race him that hard. JPM even admitted getting into Brad not the other way around. Nascar should just let the drivers drive and stfu. I thought Brad did get in too deep on Denny for no real gain but then again, does everyone need an apology formally written on the best letterhead with frilly lace and a big bow

Just the fact that NASCAR would "Warn" Jet-Ski stinks. More ammunition for all of the conspiracy theorists.
As for Hamster, he needs to grow up and race. If he can't handle the heat in the Nationwide series being around "rookie" drivers, don't race in the series. No one forces him to race outside of the Sprint Cup Series. It isn't Jet-Ski's fault that they actually race all out every lap in the lower divisions rather than play follow the leader until the phantom debris caution with 20 laps left....

I can see both sides of the story... and I do understand why NASCAR "warned" him.... BUT Denny is whining beyond his own reasoning now. He's just going to come across as an idiot if he keeps spouting off. Although, I am sure the media is not helping the situation. Time to move on... I like a good rivalry and my money will be behind Brad all the time.
btw - AMEN cme.... just let 'em flippin DRIVE

Denny seems to forget about how he completely ran all over Ruetemann at Pocono. I guess it's different when he doing the knocking around. It eliminated Rooter from the Chase. Sure he comes out with his lame butt excuse about his granny passing away, but it still knocked the guy sideways. Amnesia, I guess.Hamlin was hit in a Nationwide race anyway, not a Sprint cup, so big deal.

I love this...now this is racing. Yeah, JetSki and Hamster are jerks but, who cares. Funny that JetSki was laughing at the warning and until he sees the Black Flag he will race his way.

What makes anybody think Jetski isn't in control of his car? I think every move that he is being questioned about was made in complete control. Do i think he moved Denny on purpose? O yeah. Do i think he meant to wreck him? Prob not, but he was definately trying to move him. And i don't blame him...Denny doesn't even need to use the word immature when describing anyone else. And alongside JPM....Keep in mind that JPM is no seasoned Veteran either. He has wrecked more peopleon the track than Todd Bodine in his short cup career.
NASCAR needs to stay out of the drivers helmets unless something horrible is going on.

Denny should keep his mouth shut. Nascar has to let these guys race if JPM thought it was so bad let him go.In the end Brad ended up 9 spots behind JMP.If you are in the chase early in the race be smart and let the guy go nobody wins a race in the first 3/4 of a race.

Why is everyone giving Brad such a hard time about not being in control over his car, yet there are drivers on the track every week with years of experience that can't control their cars (i.e. Mikey Waltrip or Robby Gordon)? The guy has talent, and when he's been driving as long as Waltrip has, he'll be the one laughing all the way to victory lane.

Denny is a whiner! He needs to shut up and drive. It's immature to carry on a grudge like this, but then again, it's not like some of these guys ever grow up.

Also, Brad is right ... Juan is the one who ran up in to him, not the other way around. NASCAR needs to shut up and let these guys race.

Juan Problema is driving over his head , in an effort to show that he is indeed good enough to be driving in Cup. As far as he is concerned, with his F-1 experience and all the Indy starts: J.P. feels superior to the Cup regulars. He seems to feel entitled to major Cup startdom. I look forward to his return to open wheel, sooner than later.

The problem as I see it is that a Hendrick driver not in the points could start knocking off non Hendrick drivers in the chase and that would be one huge headache for NASCAR.

Sounds like NASCAR is showing favoritism just like the cheap local Friday night tracks. Who ever said the last 10 races were just for the twelve chasers? That's a bunch of BS! Any of the 41 drivers has every right to be anywhere on the track they want to be. If a non-chaser takes out a chaser during a pass, then so be it. Bring back racing like it was back in the day. This sissy stuff is getting rediculous. Personally, I'd like to see the "hamster" get knocked out of every race simply because he's a chronic whiner.

#19 putting it back and the championship race would be over about 5 weeks ago no fun in watching a guy just riding around collecting points where now they have to actually race.

What if Carl Edwards wins the chase by finishing in the top 5 every race. Does it matter that he hasnt won a race all year. Is this what you wont for a Champion. The other 11 finsihed 6 thru 20. Is this a champion.Does football or baseball call their championship team by most points scored in a controlled setting. NO!!!!!!!!!! Its time to change format . They call this racing THEN LET THEM RACE.
