From the Marbles - NASCAR

The Jeremy Mayfield saga took its latest, and perhaps last, turn Wednesday with the revelation that Mayfield once again tested positive for meth, this time from a test conducted on July 6.

Words fail me.

This is a treacherous situation, legally speaking, and I'm not really of the mind to do what some outlets have done and speculate on aspects of this case, such as why Mayfield took so long to take the July test or why there were such high levels of banned substances in Mayfield's samples during the May test. What I will say is that Mayfield is certainly losing support, both legally and in the court of public opinion, for his case that NASCAR is bullying him and he's innocent of all charges.

Thing is, this whole affair is turning into a bad country song, with Mayfield's stepmother charging that Mayfield not only used meth, but even cooked it up himself for a period of time. "Between 1998 and 2005, I am personally aware that Jeremy used methamphetamines often," Lisa Mayfield said in her affidavit. "I was concerned about his heavy use and talked to his father about it. I saw Jeremy use methamphetamine by snorting it up his nose at least 30 times during the 7 years I was around him. Jeremy used methamphetamine not only in my presence, but also when we were both in the presence of others."

Huh. Mayfield responded in an interview with AP/Yahoo! Sports writer Jenna Fryer by saying that NASCAR "picked the wrong woman to use against me because that (expletive) is trash and has got nothing on me but lies ... "She don't deserve the Mayfield name ... She's hated me since my dad got killed because I won't give her any money. She goes on the Internet and blogs lies about me and Shana (his wife) and everything you can imagine. She's broke, and I guess she got NASCAR to give her some money."

Whom to believe? The truth lies somewhere in between, surely, but the problem with drug use is that it's like being pregnant -- there's no gray area involved. If Mayfield is even remotely guilty of using meth, why does he continue to fight so vehemently? And if he's completely innocent, how does he explain all these tests and factors all pointing in the exact same direction?

DENIAL is just not a river in Egypt, ya know. It all smells, fishy, fishy, like S#%T. Time for an intervention Jeremy or maybe this is just one unbelieveable campaign to smear Mayfield's already dubious reputation. Get some help, DUDE!!!

Sound to me like he's quilty. He probably has used so much meth that it has warped his thinking and he thinks he can talk his way out of it. Not going to happen. Kind of hard to believe that all the tests have been tainted by the lab.

Oh what a tangled web he's caught in! I aslo wonder as Jay stated above, why keep fighting, if you've ever ever even once been around or done meth, why keep fighting it. If you are completely innocent, keep up the fight, if not, it's time to close the doors and face the consequences of your actions.

I cannot help but draw some parallels to the ordeal when Mayfield split with Evernham. It was a toxic and nasty ordeal which in a way plays out the same way. If Mayfield is truly innocent, he needs to submit to being tested by any lab, at anytime and in front of any person. He lost all credibility on the day he paraded around and waited 8 hours to be tested and then complained about every detail. If he is innocent, then do whatever it takes. Otherwise, it becomes nothing more than a game played with sleazy defense attorney tactics (which is where it currently sits).

It's not like Mayfield even matters in NASCAR. So what did the sport lose? A field filler? A driver struggling to make the Top 35
Don't let him back. He won't be missed

The only thing tainted is this addict's denial. He is finished as a driver and, if he does not change his drug lifestyle, he will be soon be another dead victum of drugs.

Wonder if thirds times the charm at getting a negative result? hahahahahaha Ummmm no matter what now, he will carry this rep with him as being a methhead. There would have been those that would have overlooked that one positive result and let it go. BUT with it being 2, pretty sure that he isn't going to be able to out drive this.

You know, there is always someone in each sport that will get caught doing something illegal. He more than likely won't be the last to get busted in NASCAR...

Just a natural progression.. NASCAR's forefathers cooked up moonshine. Jeremy figured he would take it a step further and set up a meth lab in his shop. No diprovil found though.

You know penske2car - there might be a club. hmmmmm Jay needs to check into that. hahahahaha
Kelley - I'm not sure why he would want to do that other than to save some kind of face with his fans (yeah I'm sure there are some out there). He has got to at least put forth some effort of denial and self indulgence at the injustice of being accused of something like doing meth. hahahaha

Its pretty simple! You have a career in which you race cars with 43 other people out there with you, doing speeds up to 198 mph and, you think its okay to put their lives in danger! Well, I don't!!! I hope Nascar makes an example out of you. This is a sport I happen to love and, would never want to see someone hurt or, even killed because,he can't put down the METH. You don't test possitive for somrthing that has NEVER been in your body! He should be embrassed!

That's all he had to do before, admit it, go to the recommended drug rehab, do random testing, and boom back in, but now, nobody is gonna to touch him sponsor wise, and his team is for sale( I heard that one somewhere, don't ream me for it if it proves to be untrue)

Oh wow, this is the last thing anyone really wanted to hear. A sad, sad chapter to a young mans life and career.
Reflecting back I guess one would have to believe that the test results weren't tainted and mostly for the reason of how he fought it. If I was in his shoes, and been clean, I'd have gone to NASCAR and pleaded with them, begged them, to test me any time any day they wanted. Just give me enough water and a half hour and I'll give you a sample. Heck test my blood if you want at any time. The middle of the night is fine with me. Just help me to restore my good name.
That's IF the tests were wrong and tainted somehow. But instead he did it the going through court way, to get the test thrown out. And now he's failed a second one.
I'm sorry Mr. Mayfield, I really truly am saddened to have to watch you go through this, but you've done it to yourself and are continuing to do it to yourself.
Now it makes me wonder what the conditions were when you and Penske parted ways along with Evernham. Did they suspect something too?
Wow is all I can say.

As a drug user, Jeremy is in denial to the extreme. Why couldn't he and his attorney find the lab they agreed upon. After 7 hours, they go to his home to get the sample. If he is innocent why didn't he have a hair test immediately after the first test came back negative?

The simple and sad truth is, meth makes its users lie to and deceive others and they think they are invincible. That looks like what Jeremy is doing. It's a sad waste of could-be talent but it's happening eveywhere in America from teachers to doctors, not just a professional race car driver.

Why does he keep fighting? Cause meth cost money and to support his habitual use, he needs to drive and earn that dollar dollar.
The sad part is, I think he knew he was going to fail the test hence why he hasn't shown up at any NASCAR track since.
He needs to go to rehab or drop the face of the earth. Too much internet space is wasted on him and this story. Let's get back to bashing Gordon, Johnson, Ky. Busch, Jr, Waltrip, R. Gordon, Speed, That damn gopher, and Jay Busbee!
