From the Marbles - NASCAR

Well, that didn't take long. Barely hours after Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s first win as a member of the Hendrick team, lo and behold, look what shows up on NASCAR.com: official Dale Jr. First Win t-shirts!

Now, there are several very reasonable explanations here. One, NASCAR moved quickly, decisively and properly to commemorate a momentous occasion. (I think we can rule that one out.) Two, NASCAR sent its representatives out to the Third-World hinterlands where the NFL dumps its Buffalo Bills Super Bowl Champions t-shirts, and rounded up all the Dale Jr. shirts off the backs of the befuddled visitors. Or three, they had this planned all along, and already had t-shirts made up to honor the momentous event. Wouldn't be the first time somebody did this, but unlike the NHL, NASCAR didn't jump the gun.

There could, however, be something more sinister at work here. Is there, perhaps, a Dale Earnhardt Jr. 2008 Sprint Cup champion t-shirt languishing in a warehouse somewhere, waiting to be born? I've got a brand-new shiny American quarter waiting for the first person to bring me photographic evidence of such a beast. Be careful, though -- this is the kind of thing that Indiana Jones gets shot at for doing.

Ah yes. The first win T-shirts. There's also a decal pack and a keychain on nascar.com superstore. They all have his first win as Talladega from this past April though. I guess just to show you what it would look like but I still thought it was funny.

Well this ought to give the "Nascar ochastrated Jr.'s win" crowd a little more fuel to make it to next weekend.

Actually these type of shirts are very easy to print and distribute quickly. As soon as the NBA Championship is decided, there will be "2008 NBA Champs" t-shirts in stores literally within hours, regardless of who wins. The designs are already good to go, just gotta crank up the machines and start knockin' them out.
I used to date a woman who managed a number of gift shops in a big city. Within an hour of a major sports championship (Super Bowl, NBA, World Series, etc), we'd be at printing shops picking up hundreds of shirts and hats to be delivered to the stores by 6AM. The store personnel would be in early to re-merch their displays so when stores opened at 8AM, they had plenty of shirts and related items on hand.

Trying to remember if DALE had or would have a shirt for every win...NO...I don't mean Jr.
Everybody wants to squeeze a buck anywhere and everywhere they can. Our society and economics in the US is based upon "spending" and this is where it gets us: last year, negative savings ratio for the US, i.e. as a society we spent more than we made...imagine that.

Upon further review, is that shirt printed correctly? Suppose to read, First or Last Win? It's all the same.

Nascar is saying 'Ka-ching!' right about now. Not even our own government moves this fast, except for our NASCAR racers.

#14, If this was a government project it would still be being ignored, the first steps would take place next Wednesday, and the final shirt would be produced sometime next spring.
Am I the only one kind of creeped out by this? Something about it just isn't right.

look, i dont see what the big deal is and why this article was even written in the first place, except to stir the pot of those out there cooking up conspiracy stew. so they made T-shirts commerating his first win with a NEW TEAM! big whoop. his move to Hendrick was a huge deal in the first place. it was supposed to give him the chance to win and win a lot. it finally started happening. he's the most popular driver who now drives for the best team in NASCAR. if this was the other way around and Jeff Gordon left Hendrick to go to DEI and he won this race, im sure we'd see some "Jeff Gordon First Win with DEI" T-shirts printed up within hours as well. im glad he finally won. im glad he made the move away from DEI in the first place. now he has the equipment and the situation to match is talent. good for him. Go Dale Jr.

Little late to the Party, but I believe the last couple years NASCAR - or one of the main NASCAR shops - has had Daytona 500 Champion shirts posted to the site a week or so before the race for all the major drivers, with the note "If driver does not win, shirt will not be produced and your card will not be charged."
I ordered a Kyle Petty one last year, JUUUUUUUUST in case, so I could be the first amongst all my friends.

Y'all know what's cool? There's a local track by here. On calm nights when we sit outside we can hear the cars.
