From the Marbles - NASCAR

Four links from around the world of NASCAR to get your morning started right...

• Who was the best announcer in 2008? Darrell Waltrip? Dale Jarrett? Larry McReynolds? The Daly Planet offers up thoughts for your consideration. (No, "none of the above" is not an acceptable answer.)

Kyle Busch's 2008 didn't quite end the way it started. So he'll spend the offseason busting his butt to make sure that 2009 doesn't fall apart the same way.

• One Bad Wheel notes that the departures of crew chiefs Todd Parrott and Ryan Pemberton from Yates Racing and Michael Waltrip Racing, respectively, could mean that it's not just drivers who are the free agents in demand this offseason.

Cameron Dodson (right), a driver for Carl Edwards' USAC team, is in critical condition after crashing on a rural Hancock County, Ind. road. Dodson was the USAC Silver Crown series rookie of the year last year, and won one of his four starts in 2008. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Moon - I LOVE DW too!... I can't wait for Fox to cover the races again at the beginning of next year. I wanted to kill that little gopher thing, but I thought their coverage was great and Darrell was awesome. Actually I think I agree with like 95% of the people you have up there! You got great taste girl!

Reds, comeon girl, we all know you love digger. i'm just worried he's gonna get run over. luckily he sees the cars just in time and ducks back into his hole. that's a smart gopher there.

I have to agree that Larry Mac. is the most knowledgeable Nascar announcer on the tube. His insight on all parts of the weekend coverage, practice, qualifying, and race coverage, are second to none. The best announcer team on TV has to be the 2008 Speed crew for the Nascar Craftsman Truck series hands down. Rick Allen, Phil Parsons, and Michael Waltrip have made the races fun, informative and a joy to watch. The races seamed to speed by with their constant dialogue and great coverage of what was accurately happening on the track. The pit reporting was blended into the coverage seamlessly and didn't make you cringe with asinine questions. Krista Voda shows you can be beautiful, have a brain, and still know what your talking about all at the same time. (best female race reporter still goes to Wendy V., but you guys knew that already didn't you).

cecil, drives me nuts when rusty starts that crap. "Oh, he didn't do that on purpose, that was just hard racing." what's he gonna say next, that Tony isn't overweight? or maybe that D00D has ears proportional to the rest of his head?

What (gasp) you don't like Krusty............ Who doesn't want to hear how he won his championship or how he would have done things. Or what about how Newman was "FIRED". Or how good his son is as a driver........ etc.................. Now what is this world (marbleland) coming too. LMAO

I'll go with the Waltrip bros.for color commentary, though it's easy to get DW overload, but he does have some great stories to tell. As for Mickey, can we say carpeteaters? 'nuff said.
Reds--Mickey should hire somebody to drive for him (anyone would be just as good) at all the tracks except the super speedways were he is still one of the best.

On the crew chief front those are two big name guys up for auction this fall. If Parrott does go to Red Bull with Vickers or Speed, look for that guy to be a real contender next year. Both drivers have a lot of talent and their cars have shown to be able to run up front. (Yes Scott Speed has talent even if he does have blue toe nails)

If I have to pick a TV guy, I'd say DW. I've listened to the race while I was driving a couple of times, and I like the MRN commentators way better than anyone on TV. They *gasp* talk about the whole field.
BTW - apparently Jay's not updating this site as much because he's getting his butt handed to him over on the Golf blog by some commentors for having the audacity to write a story about a golfer doing the right thing when no one was looking. The link's featured on the main yahoo page - congrats, Jay!
