Jr got his first top 10 so maybe its startin to turn for him, as for jimbot what a run of bad luck. The bad luck wont last plus they are a sandbag til the end type of team, they will turn it around.

I don't think J.J. is sandbagging by backing his car into the wall. I do believe that he does get momentum going through the year is why he is strong at the end of the year

D00D is the real deal but it is just so much fun to hate on that guy. Maybe I am drinking too much of the Hateraide and need to go to the low cal H2. Regardless, D00D seems to be able to "shake them haters off"...

Hate to see people jump on the "greatest ever" bandwagon so fast. Not just in NASCAR. Let's look at two drivers, which one looks better to you?
    Driver: A B
    Starts: 156 153
    Wins: 29 13
    Top 5: 74 49
    Top 10: 95 74
    High pts. finish: 1st (2) 5th
    Age: 25 24
Driver A= Jeff Gordon Driver B= Kyle Busch
Busch looks like he has all the talent in the world, but let's wait and see before throwing out "greatest driver ever" potential. Long way to go. I'm no Gordon fan, BTW, just putting the stats out there.

R N That was a great way to look at it using letters instead of names. Very good.

I agree it's too early to start in on the "greatest driver ever" talk, but I guess for bloggers (and traditional journalists) just writing a "Kyle Busch is a great driver" column doesn't generate enough buzz.

I think Post #7 hit the nail on the head ... Jeff Gordon is still the de facto "young standard" by which modern drivers will have to be judged. People seem to have VERY SHORT memories when it comes to the last decade of auto racing, particularly during the height of the Earnhardt - Gordon rivalry. Funny enough, I was a #3 supporter back in the early 1990's because he was the coolest driver I could find. I thought Gordon was the "young upstart KID" who didn't show Earnhardt (or the rest of the field, for that matter) the respect it deserved back around 1994 and 1995.
When Gordon won the Brickyard for the first time, I knew he was the real deal. Then, he started winning at tracks like Daytona, Talladega, Bristol, Martinsville, etc. ... what more could you ask of the guy? What did Jeff lack? Fans ... a Southern accent ... a bandwagon full of admirers. Even today, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has more fans than Jeff Gordon ... why? Because Junior inherited most of his father's fan base ... who wouldn't dare switch allegiances to rival Gordon.
Interesting comparison of talented drivers, however, might just be to stack up Jimmie Johnson (who entered Cup at a later age) with Tony Stewart (ditto that remark) and Jeff Gordon (already noted above). Then, and only then, you can see the greatness of these THREE drivers over the past decade of competition. When Stewart jumped out of IRL and into Cup racing full time in 1999, Gordon was already the man to beat. Earnhardt was on the decline (as evidenced by his Bristol debacle with Terry Labonte ... and fan backlash ... when I left him as a fan for good) ... and the void for competition against Jeff Gordon was all the more evident. Considering the list of drivers who won championships starting in 1999 (with Dale Jarrett) to 2000 (Bobby Labonte) to 2001 (Gordon) to 2002 (Stewart) to 2003 (Kenseth) ... we saw some truly great champions. Starting in 2004, we have seen some "questionable" championships won by some deserving drivers ... who didn't necessarily have the best season in the respective season of the championship win. When Kurt Busch won in 2004 (even though Johnson and Gordon were clearly superior), all bets were off with the Chase format. When Stewart repeated as champ in 2005, he clearly appeared to be the most deserving champ. The same wasn't necessarily true in the past three seasons - 2006 (Johnson appeared deserving and won), 2007 (Gordon looked to be better than Johnson), and 2008 (Johnson won, but clearly Edwards (and even Kyle Busch) had better overall seasons).
In any case, the jury is FAR from conceding any BEST title to younger Busch ... at least until another seven or eight years passes.

Kyle is NOT the best driver in NASCAR, but it was nice to hear Jeffy say he was an amazing driver. I cant stand jeffy. Or HMS. But Wild Thing is fun to watch in any of the 3 series.

The most amazing story in NASCAR this year has to be Morgan Shepherd. Going to be 68 this year and still racing with the 18 year olds and holding his own. As a 62 year old racing fan who did 20 laps at the "Monster Mile", I have all the respect and envy in the world for Morgan. Hope you race til you are 70. At least.

Jet Jack, dummy, monster mile is Dover, but still nice to hear of a fan even 62 year old fan getting to turn laps anywhere.
Farmer J, what the hell is your comment about, or you ust trying to amuse your self
And my bet would be Kyle Busch, if not injured, will probably become not the greatest, but one of the best of all time, and no, not a fan of his, be he just continues to amaze me with his ability at such a young age. Are you crying yet, Rick Hendrick, bet Joe Gibbs sends you a big Xmas thank you card each year
