From the Marbles - NASCAR

Bringing you the best in NASCAR news and opinion. Get your day rolling right ... or left, whichever.

• Could be worse, you know. Jimmie Johnson could be going for his seventh straight Cup championship. As it is, he's just going for No. 4 ... and, apparently, a role in the next Sex and the City flick.  [Unrestricted]

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is in a death spiral! Or maybe he's just a little bummed. There's not a whole lot of gray area with the tabloids. [National Enquirer]

• Good news: North Wilkesboro Speedway will rise from the dead! Wait a minute ... I read "Pet Sematary" ... this may not turn out like we're all hoping ... [Scene Daily]

• More good news: ABC's ratings for Texas were about the same as last year. Keep in mind, these days staying steady = getting ahead. [Scene Daily]

• Want to buy Michael Schumacher's 1994 Benetton B194? Head on over to ebay, but scrape up a whole lot of cash. No, more than that. More. More. You know what? Maybe you should sit this one out. [Axis of Oversteer]

• "Faced with heightened demands from its official partners, NASCAR is responding with a series of new programs to freshen its business-to-business council and create more retail opportunities for its consumer brannnzzzz ..." wha? Oh, sorry, drifted off. This is something about NASCAR and business partners. I bet terms like "synergy" and "brand activation" were thrown about like beads at Mardi Gras. More racin', less multivalent consumer-facing solutions management!  [NASCAR.com via Y! Sports]

Yep, he sure looked unfocused and uninterested in continuing his career while he raced in the top 5 for the 500 miler at Texas this weekend.
MarkN, you should write for the Enquirer....those people love BS.

willy... you have that right. I drove right past it Friday. Still looks the same as it has for the past 13 yrs. Only part I don't like about that article is what reasons they gave for North Wilkesboro being shut down. The owners that inherited the track with Ennis Staley died sold it to the two current owners, Burton Smith and Bob Bahre. Those two owners only bought the track to strip the dates, and the folks in Wilkesboro have been calling them the bad guys ever since. So, whenever racing does go back to North Wilkesboro, I know I will be hearing complaints from peeps that I work with about the terrible traffic they faced all weekend. LOL

Tigger, yeah man...there are trees growing through the grandstands, grass growing between the cracks in the track and all kinds of other goodies they will have to fix. Best of luck to them.
BTW, you are exactly right about the dates being stripped...for the Autoclub speedway no less.

I can't say how, but over the past year I've been part of a group that's had to deal with the tabloids. We weren't in them ourselves, but inadvertently became a "go to" for them, they contact us, we don't contact them. The Enquirer, the Star, People, UsWeekly, In Style, we've dealt with them all. Think what you want about them, but they do work for their stories and there's usually a pretty big grain of truth somewhere in the center of their story. They add layers of fluff to be sure, but they don't completely make stuff up anymore.

To think that the National Enquire maybe on to something? We've heard a million reasons for Dale's downfall but, if they have talked to his friends, that's something we haven't heard before??? At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if he has a breakdown.

Oh for the love of pete.... National Enquirer???????.... NATIONAL ENQUIRER...... REALLY...... WATEVA....... Let's just write him off cause he is having a bad year and has issues no different than the rest of us. Some people fail to remember that after all is said and done, he is JUST A MAN.... Another freak'n human being. With human emotions and issues. Yes he is a driver (MY FAVE DRIVER) but if he never won a freak'n championship I wouldn't care. Guess that should tell you something about what I feel about the issue. Does he drink YES... Does he drink excessively on occasion Yes...... Should it be any damn bodies busy when he takes a dump, blows his nose, or has a girlfriend No......

Gee...and to think I had a photograph turned down and returned by the Enquirer as it was in bad taste.
With so-called friends like those quoted anonymously, Jr needs to find some new friends.

Dani I heard a week or two ago from one of Jr. friends on Tony S. radio show on Sirius they didn't come out and say that exactly put hinted at Jr. having some problems outside of racing.
miss priss is anybody's business what Mayfield does?No but when he could be on the track it is everybody's business.
The Nation Enquirer is a rag no doubt about.
