From the Marbles - NASCAR

Monday morning, Danica Patrick ventured forth on her GoDaddy news tour, proclaiming the good news of her new sponsor and her new deal with Andretti Autosport. All well and good, though many were hoping that she would say something about her possible plans to race in NASCAR as well as IndyCar.

She didn't ... but her website just may have let a little secret out.

Several astute observers, including one commenter on our morning Danica post, took note of the fact that Danica's icon on her website, the one pictured on the left, was wearing a firesuit with a Chevrolet logo -- curious in that she drives Honda for IRL.

Ah, but look closer at the image on the left, screen-capped by The Sporting News. On her right shoulder is what looks like the NASCAR Nationwide Series logo, and on her left shoulder, that really looks like the JR Motorsports logo, pictured at right for comparative purposes.

In what I'm sure is a total coincidence, Danica has been in active talks to join JR Motorsports and run a partial Nationwide season in 2010.

The image was swiftly yanked and replaced by the IRL-centered one at right. Make of this what you will, but it sure looks like somebody spilled the beans a bit early. Hope they've still got a job. Danica, for her part, looks like she's already got two lined up for next year.

She has as much chance of being competitive in a nationwide car as jimmy spencer has of fitting in a tour modified

Agreed, another woman driver gimmick. Hey maybe she can win a race only by luck in Nascar like she did in Indy!

Now what happens if she comes in and is competitive, does that mean that most of you actually say something intelligent for once?

Danica is SEVERLY overrated. She is an average INDY driver at best. She shakes her little moneymaker and drives well once or twice a year and gets tons of media coverage. If she joins the NASCAR circuit she will be dominated and ran out after two seasons.

Go Daddy wants to have more advertising visibility. The IRL gave them some but Nascar will give them more. They don't care if a driver can win - just be visible and look good in commerials.
She can drive and those that discount that need to look at the points and see that she is at the top on the non-Penske and non-target cars. Whether she can make the transition to NASCAR remains to be seen. The big difference is she will have the best equipment to drive while some other open-wheelers have not had good cars under them.

Seems the red neck NASCAR chauvinist clods are out in full force. Ms Patrick can run with the best of them in any league and will demonstrate that time and again where ever she decides to race.

Bigofootz before you start with the redneck chavinist line, let's look at facts. Franchetti and Hornish are both former Indy 500 winners and series champions. Dario was finished and heading back to IRL in less than half a season , and people have pools as to what lap Sam's going to spin out on. I mean aside from Tony Stewart(and to a lesser degree Montoya) who out of the CART/IRL/Champ Car has really done anything in NASCAR the last few years?

For all these want-to-be racing guys that hate women in racing. I get the picture of you living in your mother's basement all knowing and knowledgeable about all things racing. Makes ya think of the Brad Paisley song "online" where Jason Alexander existed in his bigger than life online world in his mother's basement. It's stereotypical, but oh so funny.
For someone to be this vicious to Danica, my take on you is the only answer. You guys go out of their way to find anything written on Danica and viciously attack her.

The only hurdle I see for Patrick is handling the bull [profane] that is going to fly around her by the usual stuck-in-a-rut whiners that will definitely be whining. She is consistent and talented and she's not afraid to bump or rub, which will be her best defense out there. Nationwide will be a good place to get her chops. If the shoe fits, wear it. At least she isn't wearing pink, and she has an edge on most of the boys when she gets her groove on...CHOCOLATE!
