From the Marbles - NASCAR

This is just flat-out cool: Wednesday, Brian Vickers and Team Red Bull decided to give jaded New Yorkers a taste of NASCAR craftsmanship. So amid the cabs and bicycle couriers, Vickers chose his spot, and boom:

That's a thing of beauty right there. And even though Vickers was only stopped for fourteen seconds, he still picked up a passenger, and got him to LaGuardia in record time. (Not really, but it must've been tempting.)

New York has long been a target of NASCAR; plans for a track in Staten Island have burbled up and down with regularity. But we've all been missing the obvious: why not a race down Manhattan's concrete canyons? Hey, it works in video games, so it's got to be a good idea, right?

That was a pretty fast stop but it looks like that one cabbie still beat him to the line.

Vickers has always been one of the drivers I like to follow and Team Red Bull has had some good runs this year, need to get someone legit in the #82 though.

#10, now where would Nascar be w/o fellows like Mikey, Sadler, and Vickers? They all can't be there in the top 10 every race. I must admit I'm a little sad to hear that Mikey might be hanging up his helmet. He's a hoot. lol

Forget New York, we need a track in the NorthWest. I vote Montana, but anywhere up here would be nice. The closest track to me is Vegas, and that just isn't right. This is the only area of the country that doesn't have a track, come on NASCAR, you're missing out on a huge fan base up here!

#12 I don't really understand what you mean(I'm not sure if you think Vickers is in the 82, he is in the 83, Scott Speed is normally in the 82). I love those guys too and I know everyone can't be in the top 10 every week... I actually root for the guys that aren't in the top 10 week in and week out ( I love Vickers, Reu, Ambrose, Mikey, Robby Gordon, even some JPM now and then) What i meant by they need someone legit in the #82 is that Scott Speed is fine, probably needs alot more time in nationwide or trucks, would of liked to see AJ stay in that car because he was putting together a good last 5-10 races last year. Team Red Bull has more than capable equipment so i think they should have went with someone with experience like they did with Vickers. I think J.J. Yeley, David Stremme, even someone like Jason Leffler- his personality would fit good there- or sign a big free agent cuz doesn't Team Red Bull supposedly have DEEP pockets. I know all the guys i just mentioned had their chance and failed... but didn't Vickers when he was at Hendrick... he's got more points now than one of the premier Hendrick drivers that replaced him (Dale Jr.)

Spent a few days in Chicago and stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel. You aint seen driving till you'un watch an cabby from India fly through downtown 80 mph. They race each other in the middle of the day. No cops. You cross the street downtown you'un better be in sneakers when you cross the street and try not to trip over a panhandler when you reach the other side. These cabby's would run Gordon and Jimmy off the road. Any of them could drive in ASSCAR. Don't take no skill to be an ASSCAR Cup driver. The driver is the least important memeber of a team.

For years i've considered entering local politics. One thing i'd do is push for Central Park Drive to be made into a racetrack. It's shaped just like Indianapolis, and at 6.1 miles it'd be Indianapolis superspeedwayed.

Daniel K you must be right about Red Bull's deep pockets; they sponsor everything; recently our fave guy at the local bicycle shop quit to go do something for RB's mountain bike team...
Timid it's a cool idea, but didn't Central Park get renovated recently, I thought it was a nice place again?

Daniel, my bad, missed the 3 there. Personally don't see Speed being accepted by Nascar fan base wearing nail polish and all. Would love to see JJ get another shot. and you are so right Vickers has had quite a few, but he'sstill getting up there and running up front, just not staying there. and on AJ, I just like his personality, and seems that the King does do. He'll probally be back in a toyota next year anyway.

Just in quick response to #17 - I live 5 hours SOUTH of Chicago (does that mean I'm still a Yankee cause I'm from IL? hmmmm)... and I finally went to NYC last sept... the cabbies are no worse nor better in either city. I have never had an issue crossing the street in Chicago, and I am known for wearing flip flops all the time. So maybe "you'un's" lazy azz better get the eff outta the way.... dumbass
