Lewis Hamilton’s grid drop for Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix is now up to 55 places after Mercedes elected to take another complete new power unit on Saturday morning. Formula 1 drivers’ championship leader Hamilton confirmed on Thursday that he would be taking a grid drop for exceeding the number of power unit components during the season. Hamilton was forced to use up more of his five permitted components for the year than planned earlier in the year after issues arose. Mercedes took a complete new power unit on Friday ahead of both FP1 and FP2, resulting in a 30-place grid drop. Kasey Kahne was blunt when talking about his struggles on Wednesday. Kahne’s contract with Hendrick Motorsports runs through 2018 and said that if he’s not competitive by the end of his deal, then it’s time to move on. Byron, who has won five races in the Camping World Truck Series this season, signed a contract with Hendrick Motorsports last week.
All three NASCAR national touring series will be in action this weekend, but they’ll be in different states. The Sprint Cup and Camping World Truck Series are in Brooklyn, Michigan, at Michigan International Speedway. Meanwhile, the Xfinity Series concludes it stretch of three road courses in four weeks with a visit to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
