Mom forces kids to eat Skittles for a ‘solid month’ before realizing they taste like ‘rotting flesh’ or ‘dirty diapers’

A mom fed her kids Zombie Skittles for an entire month before realizing what they were, and now her post is going viral.

Mom and photographer Emily Massingill gained over 100,000 likes, 32,000 comments and 89,000 shares when she posted her story on Facebook.

Now, just like the mom who was horrified to realize she was sitting in the wrong car and ranting to a teenage boy about tampons, Emily’s comical mistake is making the rounds online!

Emily’s post reads: “If you’re feeling like a bad mom today, don’t worry. I fed these skittles to my kids for a solid month not realizing there is one Skittle in there that tastes like rotting flesh or 54 dirty diapers in the garbage…

“They kept telling me they didn’t like the skittles, and I told them to either eat them or they wouldn’t get any more candy ever again if they’re gonna be ungrateful.”

The mom’s post gained so much traction — and so much backlash — that she felt the need to edit the post to add more details.

“Editing to add, now [that] this has blown up, which is insane to me: I don’t give my kids candy EVERY DAY. But for a month, when they did get candy, this is what they got. They only went through about six packs or so…

“Also, for all of you who say I’m a horrible parent and ruining my children’s lives, my Venmo is @emilymichellephotos if you wanna contribute to their therapy fund for later in life. They’ll need the best due to this incident, I assure you.”

In response to additional criticism, Emily edited the post one more time to address her haters: “Edit edit: ‘wHy WoUlD yOu MaKe YoUr KiDs EaT sOmEtHiNg tHeY dOn’T LiKe?’ It’s Skittles, not horseradish, sit down, listen to yourself. The ones I ate were fine, unfortunately for my kids.”

Not everyone agreed that the Skittles story was funny…

Emily’s post received a mixed bag of reactions. Some parents thought the story was hilarious, while others took issue with her methods.

“Poor kid will have Skittles PTSD later in life. Her traumatized face is cracking me up,” one parent wrote, laughing emojis in tow.

“This is awesome!! One day your kids will look back on this and laugh with you so hard. And hey… maybe they won’t want candy anymore?!” another user commented.

“Best game of Russian roulette ever. My son ate them and he is fine, [he would just] spit out the nasty ones,” wrote one mom.

“My kids refused them too. Similar ‘ungrateful kid’ thoughts, but I eventually ate a pack and almost puked. Nonetheless, the whole bag was thrown out. We laughed about it,” another parent shared.

“Crazy you had to put two edits in [because] ppl are so stupid and act like they are No. 1 parents 24/7,” one user commented.

“I’m laughing so hard! I can’t believe people actually took the time to attack you as a mom. We have all done funny little things that scar our kids for life… just as our parents did us. Lighten up people!!!” another parent wrote.

“Poor kiddos. This is why parents should listen more when they say that they don’t like something,” wrote one disapproving parent.

“Yeah sorry can’t really agree with this post and don’t find it funny… Coming from someone who spent four months in an eating disorder clinic in Denver, many people develop eating disorders from childhood experiences similar to this. Example: a parent making a child eat food that’s gross that they don’t want to eat and basically saying that if they don’t eat this food then they don’t get something else and are being ungrateful. There’s a lot of psychology behind it… Very harmful,” another user wrote.

“You giving your kids a couple [of] small pieces (like Skittles) every day isn’t the problem. The problem is you want to assume your kids were being difficult and ungrateful. You need to treat your kids with respect and listen to them when they say they don’t like something. Your response SHOULD have been, ‘Oh, no. Well we can try a different candy then,’ not, ‘I just assumed first-thing that they’re being ungrateful,'” wrote one parent.

While the internet may never agree on Emily’s Skittle story, it’s safe to assume we can all agree on one point: that Skittles must have a very talented flavor team to capture tastes so disgusting that even small kids won’t want to eat them!
