Report: UFC 127 in Australia to host Condit-Lytle

A rumored UFC 127 event for late February in Australia already has its first rumored fight.

Sources close to the fighters told that a welterweight showdown between Chris Lytle and Carlos Condit is in the works for the promotion’s return to Acer Arena in Sydney. At least one party has agreed to the bout. The fight was first reported by Joe Ferraro for

After bouncing between wins and losses for several years, Lytle (30-17-5) has made a steady run toward the UFC title by reeling off four straight victories, including over Matt Serra at UFC 119 in Indianapolis. A win over Condit would likely place him at the door of the elusive title shot.

Condit (26-5) was the final WEC welterweight champion before the weight class was absorbed by the UFC. He got off to a rocky start in the Octagon, losing a split decision to Martin Kampmann. He has since strung three wins together, including a devastating knockout of Dan Hardy at UFC 120 in London. Like Lytle, he is knocking on the door to a shot at UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

If it becomes official, UFC 127 would mark the promotion’s first trip back to the Land Down Under since UFC 110 in February 2010. Current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez earned his shot at Brock Lesnar with a win over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 110 in Sydney.
