Headbutt at the Strikeforce Stare Down: Miesha Started It, Ronda Finished It
Ronda Rousey after the head butt at the weigh ins: "This time she had the audacity to touch her forehead on mine. I had to pull out my inner Nick Diaz and push back. Thank god Scott Coker was there…because I was about to…ruin this from the beginning."
I am jumping out of my seat in anticipation of tonight's showdown between Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey, a Latina MMA fighter with attitude—and an Olympic bronze medalist in judo. Please let this fight go longer than a minute.
If you haven't seen the stare down at the weigh-ins yet, take a look at this video
Demonstrating the opposite end of the spectrum, the co-main event fighters, KJ Noons and Josh Thomson are hilarious with their clowning around with each other. The fight card for tonight's Strikeforce: Tate vs Rousey is simmering with tension, drama and the need to shut somebody up.
Bad boy, Paul "Semtex" Daley is surprisingly quiet in the background—how could anyone compete with the bad blood and trash-talking between the wrestler, Miesha Tate and the judoka, Ronda Rousey?
Tate vs Rousey at the Strikeforce Weigh-ins
Showtime Sports tweeted an epic image of the stare down between Miesha and Ronda, "Today's weigh-in got pretty heated betweeen @MieshaTate & @RondaRousey, as both butted heads during the staredown! http://pic.twitter.com/KSjkqHmI"
Showtime Sports also tweeted a video of what both Miesha and Ronda had to say about the fireworks at the weigh-in. " What did @MieshaTate & @RondaRousey have to say after today's heated weigh-in? Our @HeidiAndrol caught up with them. http://ow.ly/9qtiP".
Here's the video and here's what was said. Ronda's reaction appears at the top of this article.
Miesha: "It's incredibly tough. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to know that I'm going to be able to punch her, but not yet."
No touching gloves tonight. This fight is going to be explosive. Ronda said, "You can expect the best d*mn women's fight you've ever seen in your lives."
Another Side of Ronda
I didn't realize that Ronda is Latina. I wrote recently about another Latina, Jennifer "J-Lo" Lopez because she was featured on the cover of "V" magazine wearing boxing gloves and a leather groin protector designed for a man. I love Jennifer's fire and I wondered what it would be like if she were an MMA fighter. I'm still wondering where the younger versions of "Jenny from the Block" are hiding. I would love to see more women training in the various disciplines of mixed martial arts.
In the meantime, we have a Latina fighter headlining a major Strikeforce event on Showtime for the championship belt.
@UFC tweeted, "Ortiz. Velasquez. Cruz. Tomorrow night, Ronda Rousey looks to join the ranks of Latino/a MMA champs http://on.ufc.com/y7TqvH @Strikeforce"
Fox News Latino (FNL) interviewed Ronda about her heritage.
"FNL: I was talking to your sister [Maria Burns Ortiz, Fox News Latino Contributor and Sports Columnist] and she made it very clear to me you are Latina. A lot of people don't know that because you have blonde hair. Your sister, she looks Latino and I don't think it's bad to say you don't look as Latino. What is your Latino heritage and how does it play into your life?
Rousey: I'm half Venezuelan; I'm just as Venezuelan as Maria is. It's kind of weird that in America you are what you look like almost because that's how people treat you. And when I was younger and we went to Catholic school that was like 99.9% Latino, I was really outcast there. I had so much trouble learning to speak English that I never learned to how to speak Spanish. I didn't learn to speak coherently in English until I was around six years old. So I didn't look it, I didn't speak it and I was kind of ostracized from that community a little bit. I think it's so cool that now people are starting to recognize that, yes this is my heritage, this is where our family comes from. I'm glad to be getting a lot more acceptance as really being a Latina— even though I don't look like it." source
Strikeforce: Tate vs Rousey details

What's your prediction? Does the fight go more than one round? How does it end?
