Yahoo! Contributor NetworkPicks from Fight Chicks UFC on FX: Guillard Vs. Miller
Melvin Guillard takes on Jim Miller Friday night (Jan 20, 2012) at the first UFC on FX event. I already miss my old routine—Facebook prelims followed by Spike TV. It was so easy before. Now, I'm making sure my DVR is set for FX (not FOX). Plus, I'm reconciling myself to missing the prelims, since I don't have Fuel TV (yet).
Sherdog.com
I wonder, will more people watch the prelims on Fuel TV than watched on Facebook?
At least, I'm not having to deal with the early prelims at 3 pm PST. The prelims start at 6 pm EST and the main card starts at 9 pm EST.
Strikeforce fighter, Alexis Davis who faces former Strikeforce champion, Sarah Kaufman, on March 3rd, sent her UFC on FX predictions via Facebook. She did very well with her last set of picks for UFC 142. She picked winners Aldo, Belfort, Palhares, (Silva - Disqualified) and Barboza.
Main Card Predictions
Melvin Guillard tweeted his appreciation for a nice photo shopped image of him doing damage to an opponent, "Thanks to an awesome fan tonight in the hotel lobby for a great picture lockerz.com/s/175998972"
On this video showing Melvin making his weight cut, Melvin says that he wants a paycheck and a bonus for knocking out Jim Miller video
Melvin Guillard vs. Jim Miller
I can't help thinking about Melvin surviving Hurricane Katrina whenever I watch him fight. His bio on UFC.com says, "Survived Hurricane Katrina - was trapped on a bridge for three days before being rescued." Melvin's a man who won't give up. Melvin is also a man who won't sit still. He's left Greg Jackson's camp and proclaimed himself a Blackzilian. UFC.com also noted that Melvin has been submitted in eight of his fights.
Jim Miller has earned some nice bonuses for his fights. He won fight of the night in his war with Matt Wiman back in 2008. He picked up submission of the night awards for defeating Charles Oliveira and David Baron. Jim received his Jiu-Jitsu black belt in July 2010 from Jamie Cruz. Miller has eleven wins by submission.
Cheryl: I love Melvin, but…I'm picking Miller to win by submission. video
Alexis: Picking Miller. I think he is more durable. He's got a tough chin! Although Guillard has good stand up and takedown defense, I see this one ending in a submission by Miller.
Duane Ludwig vs. Josh Neer
Duane "Bang" Ludwig is the proud recipient of the fastest KO in UFC history award, presented by UFC President Dana White for 6.06 second finish of Jonathan Goulet. In August 2011, Ludwig defeated Amir Sadollah, who is a tough opponent.
Josh "the Dentist" Neer achieved fight of the night with Nate Diaz and Matt Danzig. It's estimated that Josh has had close to 100 amateur fights in Iowa, losing only one. Josh has a hard head. Those Iowa farm boys are tough. Even so, I don't believe that he will defeat the owner of the fastest knock-out on the UFC planet.
Cheryl: Picking Ludwig to win.
Alexis: Neer. This one was a little tough. I think that Ludwig is going to dominate more of the stand up, but I see Neer looking for the takedown and finishing him on the ground.
Pat Barry vs. Christian Morecraft
Cheryl: Pat Barry doesn't do well against tall fighters like Morecraft. He lost to the handsome Cheick Kongo who is taller than Barry. Picking Morecraft to win.
Alexis: Pat Barry. Although he has a few losses behind him. If his cardio stays intact, he has great Muay Thai and his ground game gets better with every fight.
Mike Easton vs. Jared Papazian
Cheryl: Picking Mike "the Hulk" Easton. His UFC bio lists Easton as a "stablemate of first-ever (and reigning) UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, Brandon Vera and Phil Davis".
Alexis: Picking Mike Easton, Both great fighters, but I think that Easton is going to take this fight. He is more of a well rounded fighter. Either way, I think he's going to have the advantage here.
Preliminary Bouts (on Fuel TV):
Just Cheryl's picks for these three prelim fights:
- Jorge Rivera vs. Eric Schafer: picking Jorge Rivera
- Kamal Shalorus vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov: picking Kamal
- Charlie Brenneman vs. Daniel Roberts: picking Brenneman
No picks for the following Prelim fights
Fabricio Camoes vs. Tommy Hayden
Daniel Pineda vs. Pat Schilling
Joseph Sandoval vs. Nick Deni
