Interview: Kenny Florian Wants to Fight the Best Lightweights Around

UFC veteran Kenny Florian has had his share of success in MMA, making it to the finale of the debut season of the "Ultimate Fighter" reality series as an undersized middleweight. Since then, Florian has put together an impressive 12-4 record, losing only to some of the biggest names in the sport (BJ Penn, Sean Sherk, Jose Aldo and Gray Maynard).

After going 1-1 in the UFC's featherweight class, Florian is back in the lightweight division, and he plans to keep fighting the best guys out there.

I caught up with Florian earlier today, and he had a few things to say about his past and future in the sport.

David: What exactly made you decide to give MMA a try?

Kenny: It was just a drive to compete, I just wanted to compete and test myself.

David: What's a typical day of training like for you?

Kenny: I vary my training on the different aspects that I do. It's always two or three times a day, working on everything from strength and conditioning to the technical aspects of Mixed Martial Arts.

David: How long do you plan to continue fighting?

Kenny: I don't know, we'll see, I'm not sure.

David: Do you have anyone in particular you want to fight next?

Kenny: No, I never pick my opponents; I just want to fight whoever the best guy is, that's it. I like to fight.

David: Ever since you moved back to the lightweight division, some have talked about possibly fighting for the Strikeforce title. Is that something you would consider?

Kenny: Yeah, right now I'm just focusing on getting healthy and recovering from some injuries. I'm down for whatever, we'll see.

David: Who's the toughest guy you've ever faced?

Kenny: The toughest guy? Probably BJ Penn

David: What do you think you'll be doing ten years from now?

Kenny: I'm sure commentary, running my gym and doing things like that, still being around the sport, still being a part of the sport.
