Laura, Junie Browning’s Girlfriend, Reveals Her Side of the ‘Lunatic’ Brawl Story: Fan Reaction
Phuketwan.com has been providing updates on the "Lunatic Brawl" story which has become national news in Thailand. "Browning's girlfriend, Laura, says that only expats were involved, and that she was punched and bruised as beer bottles were broken and the fight escalated."
From another "Phuketwan" update, "Surrender Now, Phuket Fugitive Fighter Advised by US Warden", Laura shares her side of story (from her Facebook page):
"When two men get into an argument it should stay between them. 15 guys jumped on top of Junie and smashed his head in with glass bottles and beer mugs. I had to throw myself on top of his body while he gargled blood and they continued to kick him. Then even after he lay unconscious some Thai girl stabs him!!! When you get a phone call saying that there is a price on your boyfriends head and if they find you, they will kill you too, just to get to him, you run. Junie Allen Browning did nothing but fight for his life and try to protect me. All the media and mma forums like to talk **** because it makes a good story. Get a clue! No women were involved in the fight and Junie did nothing that wasn't provoked.''
Another Phuketwan story includes photographs of Junie and Laura at the police station speaking with local authorities.
Junie's version from MMA bar brawler Junie Browning: 'not in Phuket': Phuket Gazette.
"A Thai girl had a knife and was attacking my head with it. I must have lost consciousness from blood loss because the next thing I knew, my girlfriend had sprawled her body on top of mine to protect me from any more blows. She was screaming that it was 'enough' and that the fight was over. She was taking kicks in my place until a bystander grabbed me by the shoulders and [dragged] my body down the steps into the street."
Thankfully, now that Junie has turned himself in, people can stop worrying that someone may try to end his life. Hopefully, this is the "rock-bottom" moment that has him stop drinking forever.
Clash of the (Drunk) Titans
The other main character in this story is Simon Wilson Menzies, who as described by "Phuketwan" as, "an Australian who owns a Phuket bar and whose 33rd birthday party went horribly wrong when he and American, Junie Browning came to blows."
Damage was done to both sides, "Phuketwan" reported, "Mr Menzies yesterday showed 'Phuketwan' the back brace he is wearing, and the 18 stitches in one hand, along with a leg wound that is home to five stitches. The tall Aussie went to Chalong Police Station with his Thai wife, Sukanya Sisomboon, 25, who had eight stitches in a finger."
In an email received by the "Phuket Gazette", Junie stated, "The man that originally attacked me, Simon Wilson Menzies, we later discovered had been arrested on a plane from Australia in April 2011, after being refused alcohol. I am aware of previous allegations in my past that may lead people to believe that the way the event is being portrayed in the media is true. I came to Thailand to train (in MMA) and rebuild my reputation and career as a professional athlete. My current physical condition and the reputation that is being built by corrupt media is fatal to my career."
Some day, the story of the Junie Browning "Lunatic" Brawl in Thailand might be made into a movie. Hopefully, it will be a story of redemption. To rebuild his reputation after this unfortunate incident starts with one major change. Stop drinking, Junie.
