Under Armour signs UFC champ Georges St-Pierre to multi-year endorsement deal

  • Print

Sports apparel giant Under Armour today announced it has signed UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre to a multi-year endorsement deal.

St-Pierre will serve as the face of Under Armour's Underwear, one of the company's most popular items, and will be featured in its multi-platform media campaign beginning this holiday season.

St-Pierre is the first MMA fighter to score such a major deal with the company.

"It is quite an honor for me to represent Under Armour," St-Pierre said in today's release. "I have always appreciated the quality of their products, and to be partners with them is a dream come true."

St-Pierre began his pro career in 2002 and made his UFC debut two years later. The 28-year-old French-Canadian, who's won 12 of his past 13 fights, currently is in his second title reign and recently defended his belt against Thiago Alves in July. St-Pierre, now one of the sport's most recognizable fighters, is expected to fight next in the first quarter of 2010.

St-Pierre will be the face of specific Under Armor products, including the BoxerJock and BoxerBrief lines and Recharge suit, beginning in early 2010.

"Not only is Georges one of the biggest stars in one of the fastest growing sports in the world, but his dedication to training and making himself the best at what he does aligns perfectly with our brand's mission to make all athletes better," Under Armour Senior Vice President (Brand) Steve Battista stated. "When we found out that he was a fan of ours, we jumped on the opportunity to bring him into the Under Armour family."

Under Armor has a small roster of top-level athletes who have signed similar agreements. They include the NFL's Ray Lewis, Devin Hester, Santana Moss and Brandon Jacobs; MLB's Ryan Zimmerman, Nick Markakis and Alfonso Soriano; downhill skier Lindsey Vonn; and U.S. Olympian Lindsey Jacobellis.

GSP said he has no problem fighting Silva...it's not up to him to make the match, its up to Joe Silva. These guys just don't fight whoever they want, they have to be put in the match. When the time is right, they are going to fight...possibly at the end of 2010.

Come on GSP MAN UP!!!! BJ jumped up a weight class(TWICE) to fight you and you have all but said no to moving up against the Spider.....why? In your interview you that Silva is to big and there is a big weight difference between you and Silva, well GSP there was the same "big weight difference" between you and BJ, but BJ still man'd up, hell BJ's even taken on some heavyweights. GSP KNOWS there is no one left at 170 to even challenge him, but he won't move up because he know deep down the ANDERSON SILVA will make him look like Forrest Griffin! Don't get me wrong I like GSP as a fighter BUT he's the king of the weakest division, who's he beat that was really all that good........an over the hill Matt Hughes? Like I said I like GSP but quick talking about him like he's in the same class as Anderson Silva because he's NOT and he knows it and that's why he won't move up and prove it!!!!

I like GSP. He's one of the greats. Would it be possible for him to go up one weight class? There is not much competition in his weight class that can match him. I'm just saying why not test the waters in another division. Go heavier and not lighter.

roy nelson wearing UA would look like the michilen man....ikes.....

LMFAO...I'm with you there. If nothing else it'll give those of the portly bodytype a guy they can identify with and let's be honest: America on the whole is becoming a nation of fatasses, no disrespect to anyone but watch Supersize me.

GSP is a class act, phenominal athlete/champion and he's definitely worked for everything he has earned, one of my favorite fighters and I'm glad to see UA recognizes a great champion and ambassador for the sport of MMA. 1st the gatorade endorsement and now UA, which leaves me with one question...who's next for Rush? Btw it was nice to see Rampage's team finally win a fight on TUF...I thought we were going to see a shutout.

That's clutch man, very clutch. I'm sure GSP will do fine with them, and plus he's got to be one of if not the top named athlete they have a deal with.

And yeah what's with that stupid pay comment, GSP makes damn good money for his fights. Hell, he was talking before about how he paid off his parents bebt.

S W, the UFC doesnt pay jack compared to what exactly? I hate dolts like you on here complaining about how much the UFC pays. They pay more then ANY other MMA promotion out there and GSP rakes in well over a million per fight with his pay per view bonuses included. I wouldn't call that jack. Is it what top lvl boxers get paid? No, but MMA has only been around for 15 to 20 years, boxing has been around for over 100 years. Not to mention the fact that the inflated pay days that the top lvl boxers are getting are helping to kill that sport. Because of the money that they pull in the promtions have a hard time getting any kind of decent fighters to fill an entire card of fights that people want to see, and the high cost of those boxers drive up the rates for all the pay per views. So please do the world and favor and the next time you have a thought just keep your mouth shut and your fingers off the keyboard.

On a side note, I bet Under Armour regrets signing Sorryano to an endorsement deal...
