Middleweights Demian Maia and Dan Miller targeted for UFC 109 contest in February
A pair of middleweights looking to bounce back from disappointing losses have been targeted to meet at the UFC's as-yet-unannounced Super Bowl event, as a bout between Demian Maia (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and Dan Miller (11-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) is in the works for February.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned that both fighters have been approached about the contest, and at least one has verbally agreed to the bout.
While the UFC's 2010 schedule has yet to be officially announced, the Maia vs. Miller bout is expected to take place on Feb. 6 in Las Vegas in what should serve as UFC 109.
Maia suffered a devastating knockout loss to Nate Marquardt at UFC 102 in August. The loss was the first defeat of Maia's career and snapped a five-fight UFC win streak for the Brazilian submission ace. Maia had been discussed as a potential middleweight title challenger before the loss.
In his most recent outing, Miller dropped a unanimous decision to Chael Sonnen at UFC 98 in May. The loss was Miller's first since 2006 and snapped a nine-fight win streak for the New Jersey native.
The matchup is the first reported bout for UFC 109, though Matt Serra and Matt Hughes have also mentioned they may be in line for appearances on the Feb. 6 event.
