Your take: MMA rankings

After Anderson Silva beat Dan Henderson at UFC 82 on March 1, Silva received 13 first-place votes in the Y! Sports Top 10; Georges St. Pierre received two.

On April 19, GSP won the UFC welterweight title from Matt Serra. In this month's poll, St. Pierre kept his two first-place votes, while Silva added the votes of two new pollsters to last month's totals.

But what do you think? Does Silva deserve the top spot? Is St. Pierre No. 1? Or does someone else (we know you're out there, Fedor fans) belong on top?

Tell us who you think belongs atop the poll, and if you're up for it, give us your Top 10.

GSP is the most well rounded fighter in MMA. I would really like to see the UFC have a tournament style event like the old days. That would be a true test for these fighters.

The state athletic commission would not allow it. And Dana White could not put some of his biggest draws in jeopardy so they could fight multiple times in one night. Guys like Forrest and others who take a beating while still winning the match would never last the whole night anyways. Plus i dont see much of a fight between say GSP and Brock Lesnar. Under the old days this could be a match-up. I dont want to waste the space with 10 so here is my top 5.
    5. Dan Henderson- the guy is still a beast. give him another chance and he beats silva.
    4. B.J. Penn- I hate him but he has held belts in 2 weight classes. i hope Sherk kills him.
    3. GSP- He is very well rounded and athletic. GSP vs. Jon Fitch will be great.
    2. Anderson Silva- Who's next? And who actually wants to fight him?
    1. Fedor- still the top heavy in the world. screw whiney arse randy. shut up and fight! any of the top 3 could be swapped at any time thp

I am torn between the 1 and 2. Silva is an animal in the ring. GSP though just keeps getting better and better, and he is already one of the top 2 in the world. Fedor can eat a big one until he fights someone with a pulse. Which to his credit he is fighting Silvia soon. That should only cement Silvia's rep as the most boring fighter on the planet. Which means we should see a long fight of nothing but jabs from Silvia and Fedor constantly trying to get inside that crazy reach.
    1. Spider Silva - Just based on pure dominance
    2. GSP - Just a hair behind
    3. B.J. Penn - More skillz than anyone else period just a question of if his mind is right.
    4. Fedor - He is going down hill fast with his choice of competition.
    5. Ace Franklin - If the only person you are losing two in three years is Silva where else can you go.
    6. Big Nog - He is as well rounded as anyone in of the Heavies.
    7. Rampage - I don't question the dynamite in his fists just beatdowns Wanderlei Silva has put on him.
    8. Wanderlei Silva - No shame is losing 3 in a row when its to Cro Cop(who outweighs you by 30lbs) Dan Henderson, and Chuck Liddell.
    9. Ninja Rua - More skills than any other light heavy if he can stay healthy
    10. Frank Mir - Regaining his form finally after his motorcycle wreck. Would love to see him and Big Nog or Fedor one on one.
Keep in mind this is mostly just UFC guys because lets be real if your a fighter in MMA unless you are in UFC you are in the minor leagues and waiting for a call up to the big club.

    1. SPIDER-you can't deny him.
    2. GSP-one step behind Spider, will be a great fight one day.
    3. BJ-purest fighter in MMA, God given talent.
    4. Urijah Faber- starting to get the recogntion he deserves.
    5. Sean Sherk-hardest worker in MMA, will out work BJ.
    6. Chuck Liddel- still one of the most dangerous men in the game.
    7. Rampage-the competition is only going to get tougher.
    8. Chael Sonnen-the best light heavy weight no one has seen fight.
    9. Wanderlie-scariest man on the planet, I think he may actually be an axe murderer.
    10. Kenny Florian-gets better every time he fights, sherk, BJ beware

Randy, find a way to settle your differences, and get back in the mix. Fedor, you need to beat Slyvia soundly to be considered for anything. Until then you get no consideration.

I would love to see Franklin fight Henderson, Liddell, Tito, Rampage, Lyoto, and Evans. that would be interesting.
Also, i would like to see Matt Hughes and Pierre go up and fight some of the middle weights.
I would like to see also if Couture can find a way to beat Sylva.

    1. GSP - getting better every time and since he is the champ of his weight class this is impressive
    2. Anderson Silva, an incredibly gifted stiker.
    3. Sean Sherk, the strongest, best athlete to come into the division.
    4. Urijah Faber- starting to get the recogntion he deserves.
    5. Forrest Griffith, the most fun and best representative of the sport. Always arises to the occasion.
    6. Kenny Florian, getting better every fight, another one who can beat BJ "Pudgy" Penn
    7. Rashad Evans- great record which improves with every fight..
    8. Rampage-the competition is only going to get tougher.
    8. Matt Hughes, his accomplishments speak for him..

I see alot of people still have Wanderlei Silva in their top ten. They must have forgot what Chuck did to him awhile back. And someone else wrote he was "washed up." There is not another fighter in the 205 division besides Rampage that can stand and strike with Chuck. He would knockout anyone in that division that wanted to strike with him. Bring on Rich Franklin, He will fall like the rest have. He proved he can't stand with a striker. Twice.
Oh, and let him knockout Kimbo too. Then we dont have to listen to him anymore.

#1/2 Spider/GSP are a coin toss at best. would love to see them split the weight difference and go at a mutually reachable weight. would be alot of fun to watch.
#3 Penn - if this man ever got into fight shape could win the heavy weight title and give away the weight. will not happen though, looks like a pilsbury dough boy in half his fights.
    the rest:
Chuck Lidell...wait, he has the eye again.
Rampage - his love triangle with Waderlai and lidell is ugly, chuck loses to ramp, ramp loses to wanderlai, wanderlai loses chuck..... its all styles, they are even.
Fedor is crap, he fights no one on purpose. silva is a big chump. wins title by default in a weak division. Fedor ducked the ufc because Dana would make him fight a war, he ducks those.
Randy couture needs to quit think he is fighting a cause and actually fight somebody, love the guy until he opens his mouth. Hint randy: Fedor ducked you, you would actuyally hit him, he hates that.
Frank Shamrock: the guy lost a split with a broken arm folks, the guy is the best ever. you do it before you comment.

    1. GSP... I think his quality of opposition has been better than Silvas. If he gets past Fitch and Alves I think it will be very hard to deny him the top spot. Especially when Silva has Okami and who else?
    2. Anderson Silva... Yes the man has skills, so its too bad he has very few exciting fights on the horizon. I can see him dropping as far down as forth! At least on my list.
    3. BJ Penn. The man is looking good! If he dominates the 155 lb division he will have a shot at number one. People talk about GSP going up against Silva, but I think B.J . would have a better shot at actually defeating him! He is that good!!
    4. Quinton Jackson... A very good fighter but I don't see him holding on to that belt very long. yes he will beat Forrest, but if he ever fights Machida forget about it!!!
    5. Fedor... Until you have actually seen him fight a couple of fights you just don't know how good he really is. I think he puts a beat down on Silva, and then Randy.
    6. A Noguira... yeah I give him props for being champ, but soon enough he will loose the belt. Over the hill!!
    7. Randy Couture.. Time is against him so he needs to fight bad!
    8. Shogun Rua... If he can get back to his old level watch out! He is the most exciting fighter around! Arguably almost as talented as B.J.
    9. Chuck Liddle... The man lost in an almost fluke way against Rampage. I would love to see the rematch. He is better than that!
    10. Dan Henderson.... GREAT athlete, but the man does not have a great weight division for himself! He is too weak and slow at 185 lbs ,and too small at 205 lbs!!!

Ridiculous, half of you guys are jokes... Frank Mir?? Cung Lee??? I like these fighters but face it Frank Mir fought a monster, but inexperienced Lesnar (will be good one day maybe). And Cung has fought Frank Shamrock and noone else worth mentioning. I like Frank he is an entertainer but he has too many injuries to compete against these guys that are 23- 25 yrs old. In this sport you have to consider how well they dominate their division, and you can't say the best fighter is the biggest (i.e. arguments for Fedor since he is a heavyweight over GSP and Silva). So below is the list, disagree if you want to, but noone will argue that these are the fighters they would pay to see on any card, because they are the best in their divisions.
    1. Anderson Silva- Unfortunately, he has wrecked the middleweight division and I can't think of another entertaining fight for him, unless its GSP.
    2. George St. Pierre- He ost to Hughes, he lost to Serra, then he destroyed them... at their own game. Pay attention... he took Hughes down at will, and destroyed the All- American. He TKO'ed Serra with knees... catch that? He took down the BJJ expert with knees on the ground, dominating the ground game.
    3. Fedor Emelianenko- He hasn't fought anyone in a while, that's the only reason he is third. Face it, he has fought the big names before and he wins. He hasn't done it lately, but he hasn't emabarrased himself either. This time last year he was on top of everyone's board. He hasn't lost yet, though the competition has been less than stellar. Hence the drop to 3rd.
    4. Quentin "Rampage" Jackson- I had my doubts (too many losses to inferior opponents), but I'm over it. I chalk it up to inexperience. This guy is for real, and he has heavy, heavy hands. Look for him to put on a clinic that only a Forrest could endure.
    5. Urijah Faber- I don't care if you've never seen him fight in UFC or on YouTube, when you have this guy's speed and athleticism who cares what weight division you're in. Face it he owns, an incredibly tough division that UFC/ EliteXC doesn't promote.
    6. Dan Henderson- So he lost twice in a row, he lost to outstanding opponents, in their prime, I personally think Henderson is on the downslope of a great career, but he should be the gatekeeper for titleshots at each of these divisions, because if you can take down Dan you deserve a titleshot.
    7. BJ Penn- I don't like him, I don't respect him but he sure is good. If this guy would just accept that there are fighters as good as him, and take his training seriously, the UFC could have epic wars between him and GSP the likes of which we haven't seen since Tito Ortiz / Ken Shamrock, and Liddell / Ortiz. This is the only guy who can hang with GSP in terms of athleticism and technical ability in this division.
    8. Rich Franklin- Far and away the second best fighter at 185 (assuming Dan Henderson stays at 205 from now on), unfortunately thats still light years behind the Spider. Another gatekeeper for Anderson, you beat Rich you deserve a shout at the Spider. Great call to move up to 205 btw, not because he can challenge at Light heavyweight but there are some interesting match- ups (i.e. Rich vs. Forrest that can pull some serious revenue).
    9. Lyoto Machida- I saved these last two spots for the up and comers, taht can't be considered No. 1 or No. 2 in their division, but a decisive victory in their next match will certainly mark them as elite in their divisions. Lyoto has fought the big fights... and won, his lack of name recognition is just starting to fade, look for him to knock Tito out standing up, and make a big splash at 205. A big victory here, and I want to seem him fight Forrest (regardless of whether Forrest wins or loses vs. Rampage).
    10. Thiago Alves- Was anyone else paying attention to what he was doing to Karo Parisiyan last month? I had the Judokan expert winning that fight hands down, but boy was I wrong. I think this guy will go very far in the UFC.
Honorable Mentions; 11.Kenny Florian and Roger Huerta, I think Huerta wins this one, but whoever it ends up being, deserves a title- shot. 12. Antonia Rodrigo Nogueira, he may be tops in the UFC, but thats after Couture vacated the title, and Fedor whupped him twice. His loss to Dan Henderson, makes him third in the heavyweight division at best. 13. Forrest Whittaker- I'm not a believer yet, he beat an excellent "Shogun" Rua, but he was losing that fight, and his notable wins aren't enough to detract from his losses to Jeremy Horn, Tito Ortiz, and Keith Jardine (Dan Severn fight I wont even count). He can take a beating but those names when he fought them, were just that names. Keith will never be great, Tito was past his prime, and Jeremy Horn is a tough journeyman that every good young fighter should cut his teeth on but that's it. If he beats Rampage (never gonna happen), then I'm on the bandwagon. 14. Mauricio Rua- I think this guy can hurt people, give him another year and he will be a top ten fighter. 15. Rashad Evans- I just can't get behind this guy, he's too nice. With his last too fights being less than decisive, he is undefeated, and he has fought quality opponents. If he can stop his next opponent, before the judges get the fight, look for him to prove his status.

#17.... Frank did not lose in a split decision, if that is what you are trying to say. He could not return for the 5th round. The scoring may have been split at the time, I don't know and that does not matter....he was unable to continue fighting.
    My top 10 list:
Anderson Silva - unstoppable right now
Big Nog - always performs at high level
Urijah Faber - nothing but solid performances
BJ Penn - shown he can beat anyone in his class
GSP- overreated mostly by everyone, but solid in everything except striking
    Chuck Liddell - self explanatory
Rampage - with Wandy and Chuck, any 1 of these guys can win or lose to the other on a given day
Wandy Silva - needs some victories to maintain ranking after last losses
Miguel Torres - limited visibility, but solid and 21-1 record says a lot
Forrest Griffin - biggest heart of any on the list, except Nogeira
Fights I would most like to see...........
    Cung Le vs Anderson silva
    Kimbo vs Big Nog
    Rampage vs Fedor
    Liddell vs Wandy 2
I also want to see Brian Stann in a real test....enjoyed seeing him beat Rhino Marshall

anybody who doesn't have Fedor in the top 10 doesn't know MMA. Pure and simple, I'm an American and I can see a lot of americans think that UFC is god. Trust me, UFC is the most popular fight league but doesn't hold "all" the best fighters. MMA is bigger than UFC. Know/respect the sport!

Stop no more Randy Couture. He beat an overrated Gonzaga for the title. He lost to Chuck over- the hill Liddell TWICE. He beats on over the hill fighters see Tito, Tim, Vitor, Chuck, etc. Fedor will kill him, this guy is recent hype, top 5 at heavyweight, but thats it. See my post above to see the players owning the divisions for years to come.

blake h (#25)-- You gotta go with Wandy Silva at number 1, huh? I'm sure you are a big fan of his, but number 1, really?
It's great to see some insightful posts here, but some of you are just not knowledgable supporters of MMA. If I see Kimbo Slice's name mentioned again...I don't know, it's just frustrating.

Chuck Fan - Iceman seems like he has trouble with Rampage and Rampage, if you've seen Pride, was masscred by Wanderlei twice, yet Iceman beats Wandy.
I haven't watched MMA in months so I'm a little rusty on my MMA but I would say:
1.A. Silvia, because he is just dominating. I don't think he needs to go up or down in weight to proves he is the best. Any fighter wants then just get in line.
    2. GSP is so well-rounded, but unlike Silvia (he dominates the way the fight will go) he is willing to let you choose how you want to fight. He fought Koscheck and out-wrestled him. Matt Hughes wanted to stand up with him. Look what happened. Anyway you want to fight, he'd willing to do it.
    3. BJ Penn. I really think he has a warrior's heart in how he goes from one class to the next. If he goes up into the heavy weight like he once said then he'll be at the top of my list.
    4. Rampage. The only man the Iceman can't seek vengeance on.
    5. Mirko Cro Cop - Yeah, he failed in the UFC, but he is still one of the greats.
    6. Fedor. Fedor is sixth because no one good is willing to challenge him and he hasn't fought anyone that could match up well with him. And yes I know Couture wants him, but Fedor DID have an open challenge on his website for a LONG WHILE and Couture take that same LONG WHILE to challenge him. In fact, he had it before Couture came back. Fedor would be number one if he had competition.
    7. Couture is great, but the fight with Tim Sylvia was nothing because Couture just knows Sylvia very well. Not only that, I'd like to see Couture either fight more or retire honorably...again.
    8. C. Liddell. He is still one of the best, but the fact that he lost to Jardine was very surprising. Yet, I think after seeing him win for so long, it sort of brings him back to earth in his losses, so now he is completely focus.
    9. Wanderlei. He is getting older. His style has changed. He isn't as aggressive as in his glory days but he is still my favorite fighter.
    10. Nog.

Silva is getting a free pass on these lists. The best at 185 = Average fighters. GSP , Fedor and Jackson have all fought the best and won. Silva? What next? Silva - Franklin 3? Try fighting some decent fighters for 5 fights, what a joke. The Henderson fight was pathetic as well, Dan wasn't even in shape.
