Kimbo Slice was in good spirits, Jeremy Lappen not so much during the post-fight press conference for EliteXC 'Heat'. The fighter laughed about his black eye and uttered the headline in response to losing in 14 seconds to last second fill-in Seth Petruzelli.
Lappen, the EliteXC Head of Operations, was in defense mode saying:
"I think Kimbo's a huge star. Again he's been thrust onto the scene. People are interested in watching him. And I think people will continue to be interested in watching him."
As for the being thrust onto the scene, isn't that the fault of the promoters like Lappen? He seems to be saying that the viewers and media are at fault for glorifying Kimbo. Huh?
Lappen also said Kimbo deserves a pat on the back:
"He showed heart. And stepped up on an hour notice and backed up anyone, anyplace, anytime."

Anyway, the only chance Affliction, Elite XC, and other MMA promotions could pose a threat to UFC is to work together. The Andrei Arlovski v Roy Nelson fight should have been the main event and it showed the kind of dream matches that could be delivered by joint-promotions. Jake Shields needs better competition, Paul Daley is not much of a threat. And Gina didn't make weight again, a new weight division for women is needed. I want to see more of Brett Rogers and Pee Wee Herman on Elite XC.
Can't wait for the next UFC PPV. Matches are still better there.

Kimbo is the most OVERRATED MMA fighter ever!!!!
I'll take Brock Lesner over Kimbo any day of the week. Shamrock had to pull out, but what other heavyweights is Kimbo going to face in EXC? NO ONE! Would have love to see Arlovski take that one, a big massacre that would have been! Who's the face of MMA now???? Gee..... some of the most predominant fighters ever, Couture, Liddell, GSP, Hughes, Penn and the who's who of the UFC!
I get a bigger kick out of boxing writers trying to be MMA writers!

But comments like tanimachi's whatever his name is don't quite make it. He is probably a kid who plays video games 16 hours per day, and hides with an anonymous name on the Internet to insult people. He should be entitled to play tough guy, provided he gives his real name, a photograph of himself, a street address of where he works. Then, he can earn my respect.

Am I the only one who feels that they are insulting our intelligence? We do know better, yet they don't give us the credit to think that we do.

The show had some nice action, and was light-years better than the previous one. Slice was exposed as what we all knew he was, nothing but hype. Now that he is done, can we please start on the Yahoo! MMA staff?

In my opinion, Kimbo getting beaten is just karma's way of telling Elite XC and CBS that the MMA world is not for them. The MMA fan is not a sucker, and as such, we won't be treated like one, and some can try as they may, but eventually it will come home to roost. That is the beauty of karma.
