It's still an adjustment for many watching women pummel each other in a ring or cage. A picture like this may turn the stomach of the uninitiated. The XFC was in Austin, Texas this weekend with a husband and wife fighting on the same card. Roy Babcock won his fight but his wife, Jen didn't fare so well losing to April Coutino. Her fight was stopped at 2:47 of the first because her left eye closed. It makes one wonder how many shots do you need to take for your eye to close in just 167 seconds?

PureFight.org talked to Jen Babcock before and after the fight. If the "after" picture makes you uncomfortable you may not want to watch when she begins to cry around the 3:42 mark. Jen is a mother of two who trains along with female MMA stars Michele Watterson and Julie Kedzie at Jackson's Submission Fighting in Albuquerque.

The fight was actually a well-executed contest (video) with Babcock neutralizing Coutino in the early part of the first round as she worked for an armbar and triangle choke. Coutino got free and delivered a few nasty hammerfists to that left eye. Beyond that, it was hard to pick out many vicious shots that would've blown up the eye. Babcock does sound like she may have a broken nose and that may have done the trick to the eye.

Looks fine to me there are far worst pictures where cyborg had blood pouring out of her opponents head and face. They know what is going to happen its no secret.

I agree with Brad J. A fighter should be seen as a fighter and not according to their sex/color/anything else. It sounds like Mr. Steve Cofield needs to get over his ill-founded and tasteless machismo and be fair. If you do not think females should be fighting, keep your ignorance to yourself and let the rest of the world enjoy it as it should be (including the female fighters!). Leave them alone. Females can fight just as hard and take just as much punishment as males. Ignorant jackasses like you should be banned from writing in legitimate sports articles because of your bias. Get over it and stop seeing women as just sex objects that are supposed to be put together and pretty and kept all the time.

Brad J it just shows to go ya all you tough guys are really all a soft touch for the most part. ;-)
Chris Brown will get his and Rhianna would do fine to kick the butt head to the curb. If she wants to forgive forget him too IMO. I certainly would. Buh-Bye.

This is for rebekah d. I think you should quantify your statement here, women can not in general take the punishment a man can. physically speaking. I am not referring to pain, but physical damage. men are built much heavier and with bigger muscles and bones. This does not apply to all cases but it does to most. To clarify my statements though, I feel you are correct in saying they can fight as hard and should be left to their own choices regarding fighting. I have seen some pretty darn good women fighters in my time. and regardless of their sex the fighters will heal in a few days. Also believing women should be protected is not ignorant unless you take it too far. Chivalry is not and should never be dead.

i was at the fights and all i have to say is that jen is a great athlete and has good sportsmanship, better then most men. its sad that it had to happen like this but im sure she understands the risk of fighting and on this fight it just wasent her night. i hope she bounces back so that we can see her in the cage again.

Meh. We see male MMA fighters cry ALL the time. I bet this upcoming season of TUF there will be at least 7 guys crying. She fought a good fight. She lost. She has war wounds. No biggie smalls. Cofield...... man you shouldn't be allowed to touch a keyboard.

Has not Dusty and I know it.
Hey if the woman has the fight in her to take it to the cage good on her! as long as she's game let the games begin. She is matched up against someone who is taking the same risks and has the same rules of engagement. That is fair play however rough the game. I've said it before lots of fighter leak doesn't mean they're weak. That is alot of adrenaline, emotion, physical punshiment win or lose.

Chivalry has been dead and women killed it. You cant say you do everything equal to men, then expect to get treated like your a helpless flower. Either you are empowered or you are not.
Steve, suck it up buddy its a black eye on a girl. She will be fine! She knew what would happen when she entered the cage. I dont know how this makes you so squimish.

Rebekah D, women are not as strong or quick as men, and you need to realize that. Women suck at physical activity compared to men and if what you were saying is true, where are there no women in the NFL or NBA? They had to make their [profane] WNBA - which I am reminded still exists every year at the NBA all star break. Let's have men vs. women sports and may the women see their place.

boxing is gay. I have a full head of hair so you must have the wrong dude. i am the dude with a full head of hair your sister grabs onto when I pound her mercilessly whilst your heffa momma tosses my salad.. Is that 'gay' enough for you cupcake?? And if you are openly admitting you work for Yahoo Sports, you are dumber than I thought. Not exactly the gig you would want to put on any resume as concerns sports journalism..

I do have to say that I like womans mma, but I still dont like to see them get beat up. I know that doesnt make much sense, but its just not something I like to see. Im not saying they should not be allowed to compete, I just dont like to see a girl get knocked out like I would with mens mma. I dont know, it just doesnt feel right.

Man treats me like a lady and is chivarlous to me I certainly do not dis him for it. No freakin' way I will make him feel like a King. I will even buy him a glass of his favourite beverage. I can be a feminist and feminine that does not mean I emasculate men. But if I do the same job I want the same pay that is only right. I may not be able to hit as hard as a guy but I am pretty darn fast. I simply lack the physical make up to hit like one. But can you carry a child and give birth? Should I pay you less for being a stay at home Dad doing the same things as I would ~ raising prodcutive healthy children~ even if you were only the seed? Really this is a sad arguement where people really do not think clearly about the roles we play in life and how diversity is strength. Seems only Ug! Me Tarzan you Jane mentality comes alive. And seeing a woman beat up offends some sensibillties Steve never said they were his, (Are they Steve?) I find nothing wrong with that, reguardless of where and how she took the beating. I don't really like lookin' at they guys after they've been fighting I always think oooh ouch poor dude took some serious lumps. But I sure like to watch the action.

The issue is that men play contact sports their entire lives and our skin is not as soft as a woman's skin. They are far more susceptible to a cut opening up than we are, usually.
