Don’t be shocked if you see Thiago Alves wearing a Georges St. Pierre t-shirt at UFC 94. He is one of many UFC welterweights rooting for a GSP win. A loss for the champ and it’s all but a certainty that we’ll see GSP-Penn III later this year. The contenders at 170 pounds would be denied a shot at the title for close to a year. Alves has strung together seven straight wins over guys like Chris Lytle, Karo Parisyan, Josh Koscheck and Matt Hughes, so he’s next in line. Penn is one of his favorite fighters but he told Cage Writer that he’s pulling for the French-Canadian:

"I’m praying everyday for St. Pierre, St. Pierre all the way, baby. For myself, for my camp and everybody, the mma fans … I’m going for GSP!”

Fellow welterweight contender Jon Fitch, echoed the same sentiments. Fitch is on the comeback trail from a loss to St. Pierre in August at UFC 87. He faces Akihiro Gono on the non-televised portion of tonight's card.

Alves also talked about Lyoto Machida's reluctance to face other Brazilians. Machida battles countryman Thiago Silva and said it's not the best situation. Alves said he doesn't care who the UFC puts in front of him. He'll fight anyone.

The topic of his Florida homebase came up as well. American Top Team has a ton of professional fighters training in Coconut Creek, Florida. He touched on a recent addition, Bobby Lashley and a vet who stopped by for a change of pace, Chuck Liddell.

u know- I really hadn't thought of it this way yet; but Cofield MAY be right. If it's a close fight- (a decision or 5 rounder), and BJ wins, most would prob. agree that gsp would deserve a rematch. On the other hand, if BJ wins decisively (KO or sub- which is def. possible), why would St. Pierre deserve a rematch at all?Just give Alves the first shot at Penn... why should that affect him? But I think everyone's assuming it'll be a close fight (I am too). I really like Alves, Kos, and even Johnson in the WltrWt. div.; so I'd like to see at least one or two of them get a shot this year. And Shaun- KenFlo will take the LtWt. title from BJ... really? Based on what- the fact that Florian beat the same guy Penn destroyed to win the LtWt. title a yr. ago? So by that thinking, let's put Florian against Sherk (who Penn also ran through), and IF Florian gets past Sherk, then give him a shot. But Florian gets the next LtWt. title shot simply cuz there's noone else...

Dudes....Fitch on the untelevised undercard tonight is a travesty. Just shows ya how immature the leaders at the UFC are.

Fitch is not an exciting fighter. There, I said it. Combine that with the fact that he's an overwhelming favorite, and the matchup just isn't interesting to me. I'm much more excited for Guida-Diaz and Bonnar-Jones. They'll probably squeeze the Fitch-Gono fight on the PPV in between some of the other fights. I don't see many of them going the distance.

Monkey... agreed man. Fitch really should be televised. He's certainly earned it. And most of my pals argree that his fights are fun to watch.

Most of the guys on the main card deserve to be shown on TV above Fitch at this stage. Let's just see Fitch get back on a winning streak first.
