UFC may finally have a real rival

For the first time ever stateside the UFC could have some mixed martial arts competition to worry about. MMARated.com is breaking the news that an Andrei Arlovski v. Roy Nelson fight is a late addition to the EliteXC Oct. 4 CBS show. For a fight of this magnitude to be added less than 10 days before the card is certainly odd but the intriguing part is the fact that the No. 2 and 3 MMA promoters in the U.S. are working together on a promotion. Arlovski and Nelson are both Affliction fighters.

Does this mean we're seeing the beginning of Affliction, EliteXC, CBS, Golden Boy and Showtime working together?

    This is gonna be a garbage fight. The only name Nelson has fought is Rothwell and AA dismantled him. Cofield you suck.

    very cool! the addition of a.a. gives this card what it needed-a legit heavyweight who hasn't passed his prime. now casual fans can get an idea of what a quality (top 10)fighter looks like. the kimbo freak show may be good for ratings,but this match will be good for mma as a sport and could very easily end up saving elite xc......at least for now. this card does have a lttle for everyone-even the hardcore fans like the usual suspects.
    what up d-rok? where's everyone been? you know this has been a slow news week when the top story is cote and jtakeo11 doing the a$$ dance!

    if you threw WWE into the mix, you would have every tv and PPV rival of the UFC on one side and Zuffa on the other.....and it would still be foolish to not put your money the Fertittas

    What does WWE have to do with MMA or Boxing. WWE is an entertainment company, Although UFC copied the busniness model of the WWE and is now the leader in MMA

    And everyone's been saying "The UFC my finally have a real rival" for the past four or five years. AFL, IFL, Affliction, EliteXC, Strikeforce, K-1, DREAM. Until one of these "rivals" comes even close to the amount of PPV buys UFC does on a bad card, I wish everyone would STOP SAYING IT.

    Cofield, why hasn't Yahoo fired you yet?
    If I had the time to I would put together a nice little package to send to your yahoo employers explaining how horrible a rep you are to their company. If they actually read your blogs you would've been terminated long ago.
    Why is it that Meltzer, Doyle and Iole are respected amoungst MMA fans and you're not?

    I love the comments about how Coffield sucks. I also love how everyone who makes those comments faithfully tune in to his blogs weekly. Hate him or love him, he must be doing something right.
    And yes, Arlovski will bury this fool. But....it's great promotion, he's a more recognizable name.

    I love watching AA fight. I would tune in anyway though because I can't get enough MMA. Kimbo, Curano, and AA? I'm in. Sure beats watching whatever top 10 team beat up on some also ran. Yes I'm talking about you Ohio State.

    Few (none?) drop by here for Cofield. It's the bloodsport in the comments that attracts. If he wasn't so annoying some of the easy shots wouldn't be available. It's more fun taking a bite out of the rest of the pack.

    I think Andre A. wins,but Nelson is a strong country boy and has some skills.Andre loves to stand and trade.Nelson does too.I have Andre winning by 3 rd TKO...I will predict that Andre will find himself in some deep trouble in this fight if Nelson catches him.

    Kimbo slice is gona get tapped out, CBS will drop them the next day, by the end of Ocotober EliteXC will be done and gone and Basic cable will be looking for UFC to be broadcasted.

    Now with Arlovski fighting on the card I have another reason to watch other than seeing the fine as HELL Gina Carrano kick swome a$$. I think right now EliteXC is hypeing Kimbo way 2 much, the majority of HW and LHW could beat him. At least Kimbo has El Guapo as trainner he's gonna need him once they put him in the cage with somebody who isn't way past his prime like Tank & Shamrock & somebody who isn't a journey man with a questionable chin(who would've won that fight if his ear didn't pop).
