Call UFC president Dana White what you want but nailed it on this night. There were three dynamite fights that all deserved some extra cheese in the UFC's progressive bonus program.
The UFC announced that the Diego Sanchez-Clay Guida, Joe Stevenson-Nate Diaz and Chris Lytle-Kevin Burns fights all got Fight of the Night bonuses of $25,000 per fighter.
TUF 9 cast member Jason Dent got Submission of the Night for his anaconda choke of Cameron Dollar. While Tomasz Drwal scored the Knockout of the Night bonus for his win over Mike Ciesnolevicz. Drwal and Dent both received $25,000. In total, UFC handed out $200,000 in bonuses from a card that grossed just over $500,000.
The trio of Fight of the Night fights all offered something different. Stevenson and Diaz was a great example of what top notch grappling can do for a fighter. Stevenson was dominant but Diaz was crafty enough to extricate himself from every dangerous position. Burns and Lytle was a pure slugfest. Some of the snobby media members in attendance, who like to think of themselves as a MMA purists, thought Lytle v. Burns was overrated. The UFC doesn't think so. It's fourth time in six fights that Lytle received a bonus. Guida and Sanchez was a good example of two well-rounded fighters who took the fight all over the cage.
Burns went to the hospital following the fight to get treated for a broken right hand that he suffered in the first round. He also got 15 stitches for the cut over his left eye.
