The story of the postfight action was Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic telling UFC president Dana White he didn't want to sign with the UFC longterm. Technically he couldn't because he informed White that he had already signed a three fight deal with DREAM in Japan.
No shocker, White told Yahoo! Sports Kevin Iole he was not happy:
"Isn’t that a dirty (expletive) thing to do?” White asked rhetorically after being queried about Filipovic’s deal with DREAM. “He (expletived) me. The first time in the history of the company I do one over the phone. He promised me a three-fight deal and he (expletived) me.”
Cro Cop finishes his UFC career 2-2. In the end, it's a loss for MMA fans. Japan just doesn't have any depth for Cro Cop to battle in the heavyweight division. The only hope now is that Scott Coker/Strikeforce can workout a deal to co-promote some Cro Cop fights in the states. An Alistair Overeem-Cro Cop rematch under the Strikeforce banner would be dynamite.
Wanderlei Silva got a little extra cash for his efforts in a loss against Rich Franklin. The main event at UFC 99 got Fight of the Night. Mike Swick earned the Knockout of the Night bonus for his finish of Ben Saunders. Young Brit Terry Etim scored the Submission of the Night with his d'arce choke of Justin Buchholz.
The event at Lanxess in Cologne, Germany drew 12,800 and produced a gate of $1.3 million at an average of just over $100 per ticket.

Tooled! Maybe he'll F over Tim Sylvia to feel better. I know it would get me out of a funk.

Its pretty sad. Cro Cop comes into the ufc in 07 with so much hype, but fights with little motivation and does pretty terible. Then he comes back for one fight and although he dealt with Al-Turk easily, the win is hurt a little by the eye poke. Now he leaves the organisation for a second time. His legacy is really being damaged.

j/k, but this just validates Dana on not wanting to do one fight deals. Cro Cop has well and truly burnt his bridge with the UFC and if anything had made it more unlikely for Fedor to join on his own terms.
Cro Cop is self centred, and lied to his fans about wanting to get the belt back in the UFC in his post fight interview. He cares about nothing but himself. Overeem will take his other ball back in Japan.

I was not defending Zuffa rejects. I was making fun of White and his mob buddies. I don't blame Cro-Cop for following the money, not one bit.

County courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over
who should have custody of him. The boy was present because of a history
of being physically abused by his parents. His parents claim to be huge
fans of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. They claim that they are
only attempting to toughen him up so that he may some day be a
professional fighter.
The judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child
custody law and regulation requiring that family unity be maintained to
the highest degree possible. The boy surprised the court when he
proclaimed that his aunt was even more abusive than his parents and he
adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that
he live with his grandparents, the boy broke into tears saying that they
also beat him.
After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning
that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the
judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who
should have custody of him.
After two recesses to check legal references and confer with the child
welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to Mirko "Cro
Cop" Filipovic, whom the boy firmly believes is not capable of beating
anyone.

Still Cro Cop, with his losses to confirmed non-threats and nobodies like Kongo and Gonzaga, is coasting on his past accomplishments as he hasn't looked good in a while.... if he truly wanted to redeem himself he should have stayed for the two fights and tried to win rematches with the terrible twosome THEN gone to Japan and fought Overeem again... if he had done that then beaten Alistair I would finally be willing to consider Mirko a contender again.
I mean really you're going to skip town on an eye-poke TKO against a can?
