Thiago Alves can never separate himself from the weigh-in drama storyline. The stocky Brazilian is massive for the 170-pound class and it's always an adventure in the days leading up the weigh-in. This week was no different. Alves was reportedly 190 pounds on Wednesday morning. Today, sounded bright with reports that he was 177 in the morning. But it didn't work out, even with two weigh-in attempts. Alves missed the mark, had to forfeit 20 percent of his purse and may have cost himself the title shot promised to the winner of his fight against Jon Fitch.

With the threat of Alves missing weight, it sounded like White had changed his mind overnight telling Fanhouse (7:10 mark) that Fitch, Alves, Jake Shields or Martin Kampmann could be in line for the title shot after Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck fight. Alves couldn't have donehimself any favors by missing weight again!

The energy was high as the main event combatants hit the scale. Chael Sonnen was all business while Anderson Silva had fun on the scale acting as if he was nervous that he was going to miss weight. Silva flipped the script during the staredown by refusing to look at Sonnen. The challenger has done a helluva job hyping the fight but it sounded like he made plenty of enemies amongst the fans.
