The U.K.'s Sun is reporting that Mike Swick is off the card at UFC 103. The welterweight from Houston was injured during training and will be unable to face Martin Kampmann in Dallas. It's a crushing blow for Swick since it appeared that the winner was going to get a shot at UFC 170 champ Georges St. Pierre.
It also screws Kampmann. The new opponent is UFC-newbie Paul Daley.
"I got the call and I accepted. I came to the UFC to fight the best, and that's what I am going to do. Kampmann is on a roll with the UFC, but I will roll over him. Semtex is going to explode onto the UFC's welterweight scene at UFC 103."
UFC U.K. chief Marshal Zelaznik confirmed the opponent change:
"Semtex has come to the UFC with a lot of hype, a lot of ability and — as he's already proved — a lot of confidence He was asked to step up and — real fighter that he is — he accepted right away. He has an attack-minded style and British fans will be able to see Paul make his debut against one of the best 170lbs fighters in the UK on ESPN."
The Brit is legit top 30 welterweight but a win over Daley shouldn't ensure Kampmann a title shot. And there's certainly no chance Daley is getting GSP with a win. Swick-Kampmann was also one of the feature fights in Dallas. Daley was scheduled to make his promotion debut against American Brian Foster.
Revised UFC 103 Main Card:
Vitor Belfort v. Rich Franklin
Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic v. Junior dos Santos
Martin Kampmann v. Paul Daley
Josh Koscheck v. Frank Trigg
Tyson Griffin v. Hermes Franca
Watch Kalib Run points out that UFC has a challenge to find an opponent for GSP if Kampmann isn't given the shot.
