It was a great night turned sour by the actions of Brock Lesnar. That's what you're hearing in a lot circles. Maybe we should change that to Dana White turning it sour. Lesnar's Bud Light rant was stupid. You can't crack on a sponsor publicly. We get it. But White crossed the line when he tried to repeatedly convince us that the rest of Lesnar's rant was out of character and fake:

"Brock's a grouch especially the week of the fight, but he's a good guy. I believe what he said tonight ... he was in the WWE so long, he thinka has to jump in there and be the heel."

It wasn't fake and it wasn't out character. He's a grouch and a guy on the edge each time he deals with the media and steps into the cage. It simply adds to his persona as potentially the scariest guy in MMA. White even confirmed it when he said Lesnar is a little nuts:

"He gets in there, the adrenaline starts kicking, and the mouth start moving and the brain isn't sending [expletive] to the mouth."

White and Lesnar said they had it out, and the big guy got yelled at. Let's hope White made it clear what he was angry about. Because stuff like Lesnar calling for more boos, beating Mir with the horseshoe that he removed from his [expletive] and even celebrating by "getting on" his wife, was pure brilliance. There's wasn't a person who walked away from the arena, closed circuit or pay-per-view broadcast who didn't have some rush of emotion and an opinion on Lesnar. That is great for the business and great for MMA. Telling Lesnar to tone it down is not.

To hear media members act like Lesnar has just snapped a puppy's neck on live television, is comical. It appeared that one prominent ESPN writer was ready to cry during the postfight when he got into an argument over Lesnar's antics. It's all part of the show. And the fact that it made even a veteran reporter angry, means Lesnar and his "craziness" is great for MMA.

I don't agree. Lesnar's act was disgusting, and it made me less likely to purchase a UFC event in the future. I don't want to pay money to watch some goon refuse to shake hands, taunt his fallen opponent, and then give me the finger. It embarrassed me - I told people MMA was a sport and not a sideshow and then when Lesnar behaved like that I felt like an idiot.
Frankly, I find your opinion sort of juvenile. It should be self-evident that not all publicity is good publicity, and when a prominent athlete behaves like that it gives the sport a black eye. That's why in mainstream sports athletes get suspended and fined for bad behavior.
That's just my opinion, but I think a lot of people feel the same, and if White is serious about making UFC a mainstream sport instead of something for angry young men only, he should make sure there's no repeat.

Even if Dana was wrong in your mind to tell Brock to tone it down, he still is the Boss....I can't believe I am standing up for Dana

#1 hit it on the spot, I don't love to hate him, I just hate him. Don't want to look at his face or have anything to do with him. I would not care at all is Dana dropped his contract, no desire to see him again.

Like Steve Cofield has any idea wtf hes talking about, Stupid article based on some idiots perception of somebody. Do you know Brock Lesnar personally?, highly doubtful, but since he was in the WWE this guy is and always will be a loose cannon in your eyes. Leave the articles to people who know what they are talking about. Anyways, I do think there should be some kind of repercussion for what Brock did, however what can you do?
UFC needs a bad guy honestly, It sells and nobody can deny that. Now everybody and their mother is going to want to see someone step in and kick this guys ass.

I loved it! I always like a little drama to go with a good fight. Brock is just being Brock and more power to him. Carwin needs to take a lesson from what happened to Mir and do all his talking in the ring rather than declaring that Lesnar is not deserving of respect.

Carwin-Lesnar would be worth watching, both are really big guys and have the same mindset, however Carwin has more in his arsenal

I agree, Leznar needs to be thrown out of the UFC.. Just because he is the size of a cow *and the IQ of one too* doesn't make him a good fighter.. Then to flip of the fans like that!?!?! This isn't the WWE, or WWF, or whatever that crap is these days. This is the UFC.. And I will not watch another Leznar fight again.

Lesner is awesome, so what if he got carried away after the fight. He apologised. People should toughen up a bit and stop moaning. after all it is the fight business.

I agree. Lesnar's act was hysterical and it made me more likely to purchase a UFC event in the future. I don't want to pay money, but i love to watch some goon refuse to shake hands, taunt his fallen opponent, and then give me the finger. I told people MMA was a sport with some sideshows and then when Lesnar behaved like that I felt like a million bucks.
It is a mainstream sport already. The ground work is laid and the folks are lining up. In truth, Brock shocked me and everyone watching, but we all agreed that it added a thrilling element. He did his little razzle dazzle, big deal considering how funny it was. I say embrace the shifts and celebrate when a more humble fella takes Brock down. Then you can "say goodnight to the bad guy." yeah, i'm calling him scarface.

johnb- im confused, you say the UFC needs a bad yet you dont like what Brock did. Well what is it? You cant have it both ways. Also do you personally know Brock? Otherwise why can you make judgements on him but Steve can't?

There are no good guys and bad guys in MMA. Brock may have been playing the part of a bad guy, but the fact that he would feel that he has to play a part just makes him a douche bag - of which MMA has plenty. So really this behavior is nothing new. He just happens to be champion and that happened to be the UFC's biggest event to date.
The UFC will have to get a big name to fight Lesner, because he won't be able to carry a card on his own for a while...

I agree somewhat with the article. Mirr was talking smack in the preinterview about Brock and how his elbow strikes were like getting his hair pulled by his little sister. If your going to run Brock down before the fight and piss him off, then not be able to back it up when the fight starts... then I think you got what you deserved. Why should he tap gloves at the beginning of the fight with some guy who runs him down and didn't appear to respect him at all as a fighter? If I was in Brock's shoes I would have treated Mirr the same as he did. He flipped off the crowd because they were booing him and he was pissed but I dont think the crowd knew the whole story either. I would not have made the Bud Light comment however as they are a huge sponsor and they may not pay him directly, but they pay the UFC who in turn pays the fighters. if the advertisers quit advertising, noone gets paid.

It seems like you're taking an "any attention is good attention" attitude toward this, which might be okay for Dana White and the Ferittas, but as fans of the sport shouldn't we expect more from our professional athletes, whether they kick a ball, shoot a puck or rear-naked choke each other? Pro wrestling is a laughable cartoon precisiely because of this kind of behaviour and too many people already lump the UFC in with the WWE. Is that really the image we want the sport to have?

i didn't care for Lesnar's crap after the fight, I think he got caught up in the moment. Why is everyone making such a big deal about not touching gloves prefight. This happens all the time. Davis didn't shake with Hardy and left the ring without giving congrats after the decision. Why isn't this still being talked about. I think that Lesnar's actions were regrettable, but it would in no way keep me from watching another UFC. You are asking these guys to step into the cage and put or take a beating, you got to expect this to happen from time to time. These guys can't be freindly all the time, sometimes you just don't like your opponent and it boils over in the heat of the moment. If it happens again down the road with Lesnar than crucify him, until then give him a break!
