maggie...no mention of sakuraba's kneebar of zelg galesic? tisk tisk, that was perhaps the feel-good story of the night. and nothing about the new dream cage? i usually defend you maggie...help me help you maggie! anyhow, good fights no matter how one sided several of them were. zaromskis would be awesome in the ufc, people would love his style. and maeda pretty much dominated beebe, who just doesn't seem to have it anymore...or never did. and even though most don't know kikuno, that's a solid win for alvarez that doesn't come easy against an awkward opponent like him.

Saku's kneebar was awesome. He took a lot of punishment to get there too...but he got there.
Zaromskis's style is a lot of fun, but I don't know how he'd fare in UFC. He's only 5'7". And he has two losses in the past 3 years to a guy who lost in the preliminary round of TUF UK v USA...although the loss was to Wilks, who eventually won the whole thing. I'm always a little skeptical of people who win in ways you don't often see (3 straight head kicks?)...sort of like Imanari with his leglocks.
But I'd still rather see Zaromskis in the US than not.

The Whitemare FTW! Saku tearing Zelg's leg off was easily the feel-good story of the evening. I was worried for Saku that it was going to be reminiscent of the Manhoef fight. It ended up being reminiscent of the Smirnovas fight but Saku did take a lot less damage in this one eventhough he still took quite a bit of damage. Saku's "samurai spirit" lives on. I don't know if there's a fighter with more heart than him. Overeem threw a flying knee and nearly flew out of the cage. When Thompson shot in for a double Overeem easily crushed his neck into submission. Alvarez had Kikuno in a guillotine for just over 1 minute and when Kikuno escaped it he was spent. Eddie immediately stood up and was wise not to let Kikuno recover. Eddie attacked with punches to the face and a vicious left to the body followed by a takedown and then worked in the Arm Triangle to tap out Kikuno.
Post fight video of Overeem stating he wants to fight FEDOR in April of 2010. Says he will fight Fedor in Strikeforce or DREAM but would prefer to fight him in DREAM?!? WTF? I've defended him about the Overoids accusations but it's looking more and more like that maybe the issue since there is now seemingly no talk about his injured hand yet he still seems disinterested in fighting for Strikeforce. I won't be that surprised if Overeem doesn't fight for Strikeforce again. Indeed The Whitemare's head kick was impressive. Even more impressive was his win and head kick against Mach.

He did kind of block the kick, I think the ref jumped in too early.

AdamG: His arm was up, but it wasn't by his head and didn't absorb much of the kick. He took that kick square and was definitely out when he hit the ground.
He did appear to come to shortly after hitting the ground, but I don't think the ref was wrong to jump in. Look how his arms flew out and his head hit the ground. If he didn't come to and Zaromskis landed a Hendo, we'd be crucifying him. Better to err on the side of caution on a flash KO like that.

Yeah the ref definitely stopped that one early. I mean the way he fell, the back of his head bouncing off of the mat, his arms wide open and completely defenseless. Poor stoppage... Ho Bae wishes you were reffing that fight, AdamG...

actually i think if the sakuraba fight was in the U.S. it would've been stopped as zelg was pounding him out....i too was thinking deja vu with the manhoef fight. never expected him to finish that leglock off, and boy did he....looked like zelg would be in pain for quite awhile. glad to see it go down that way, even though i know saku will never be what he was...i actually remember what he was, perhaps the best japanese mma fighter ever.

I second that vote Saku was the one of my favorite Japanese fighters too..Some of the best subs ever..I think I remember him smacking Shamrock around but so many other people have I can't really keep them all straight...I still think he's a force but should probably fight to his strengths and that's his sub game...

seriously....the gracie hunter? how much better could it get than that in those days? not much. saku has almost always won and lost impressively and is always dangerous. pretty punchy these days but like i said, i remember. he did beat shamrock with strikes, but you're right, that was after shamrock started looking like he was going to die every time he got punched in the face...hence the "early" stoppage on that one.

Steve W...Nice talking with guys who have an extensive knowledge of MMA...SOOOOO many people on here make comments strictly based on maybe three years of experience and limited to the ufc...Not to mention if you have a diffrent opinion they want to call you out on the internet, As if?? LOL...Yea saku may be a little punchy just like big Nog..There's another fighter who's taken WAY to many shots to the dome...

yeah genki sudo was awesome, one of the first in mma to popularize spinning backfists and flying submissions...always was a cool character too. funny how most have never heard of him, considering he has wins over guys like nate marquardt and mike brown, a close loss to Kid and a sub over damacio page. he left the sport a few years too early if you ask me.
