Thank you: The Matts

It looks like 2009 will be the best year ever for superfights that thought we'd never see. The one that will steal the show in terms of pre-fight hype and trash-talking is Matt Hughes v. Matt Serra.

It was all set-up by a massive clash of personalities on The Ultimate Fight 6. You were either a Hughes fan or a Serra fan. There was no in-between. The trash talk continued after the season when Hughes said Serra was a bad guy and a bad role model.

Serra responded by saying he wants to retire Hughes.

Click below to listen to Serra talk Hughes at UFC 87:

The wives want this fight! And so do we. Let's hope both guys stay healthy and we're treated to a throwdown in this rivalry.

Kegg is a bunghole! "...either a Hughes fan or a Serra fan. There was no in-between." Talk about the 'excluded middle'!

I'll prob. get Serra/Hughes if there's a decent undercard. I'm not Serra's biggest fan, but I wanna see Hughes beaten into retirment...

not that ur wrong about the bobble head midget comparison; just can't stand Hughes. It's a shame, cuz he's actually a great wrestler, and I came from to mma through amateur wrestling- I think Hughes vs. Carlos Newton was the first mma fight I ever saw, and became an instant fan of mma and Matt Hughes. Unfortunately, then he opened his mouth. Oh well... what's a clarichaun anyway?

Awesome card! One of the Three Stooges VS. Egomaniac Man! I see it ending in the first round when Curly, I mean Serra goes for the two eye poke and Hughes blocks it with the old "hand in front of the nose", countering Serra with GSP jumping the fence and finishing him off for Hughes, while hughes runs out into the crowd to find a seat so he can sit there and shake his head at GSP and then later say how unimpressed he was with the fight and that GSP looks smaller than usual.

I hope the real Hughes comes to fight.. Entering the Octagon wearing a hooded KKK robe complete with burning crosses logo.. Oh and throw Evans in there ringside heckling the redneck as he gets put to sleep by a lucky over hand right by Serra..

Ican2 /. Semantics my boy semantics. Hughes said some stupid things and was obviously threatened by a very talented Evans when he was a TUF coach.. Oddly enough we do agree on one thing. I have wrestled and do not enjoy it. It is very homoerotic no matter what its apologists say... Keep it on your feet.. As for Sherk.. He was so wide and wild against BJ Penn I swear I thought I was watching an Amateur Novice class bout at the local PAL..
Not a 'reverse racial lableler' but someone with insight and racial sensitivity that sees the irony and ingrained social ignorance etched all over a rassler like Hughes..

Ican2 / Nutcracker: What is this a sensitivity session? Race baiting is par for the course. Of course, it's only truly 'racist' if my ox is the one getting gored. "Racial labeler" - "Reverse racial labeler" - "Re-reverse racial labeler" ... will it ever end? No.
    Declension: I'm aware of diversity - You're racially insensitive - He's a vicious bigot.

    NutCracker..
Glad we found some sort of common ground, quite honestly.. Yup..That was a prime example of a ground fighter slash rassler..who had absolutly NO striking skills..Sherk was picked apart easily by Penn and that should be one of many fights that help substantiate the superiority of a skilled stand-up vs the wrestler debate..look at the Machida Vs Ortiz fight as well..Tito spent the better part of three rounds getting picked apart and could not close the gap to bring it to the ground...we could go on and on..even the Liddell Vs Evans fight where a wide open counter plodder got his clock cleaned by a superior striker...and he's not even that good but his fundamentals were better..
