Gegard Mousasi, who is set to fight Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou at Strikeforce in suburban Chicago this Saturday, had a video camera following him around at Wednesday's open workout as well as different photographers shooting pictures of his every move. He laughed through a session of shadow boxing for the cameras and took all the media attention in stride.

"If you win, they say good stuff, if you lose, they bring you down," Mousasi told Cagewriter. "To be able to win my fights, I must focus on the good things, like training."

After his last fight, a TKO of Renato "Babalu" Sobral, ended in just a minute, Mousasi wants to show off his skills to an American audience.

"I can win with submission, ground and pound or stand-up, so I'm going to take my time, be sharp and put the pressure and take whatever I can. I'm going to try to do everything."

Strikeforce TV analyst Frank Shamrock thinks that Mousasi is one of Strikeforce's budding stars.

"I think there's a fighter on the card who possesses an extraordinary skill set, and has been overlooked," Shamrock said. "Mousasi, for his weight, is one of the best fighters on the planet. No one knows it yet. They found out a little bit when he won the belt, and they're going to find out a little bit more on Saturday night."

At the same time, Mousasi's not overlooking Sokoudjou, who struggled with the UFC but was quite successful in fights overseas.

"He's a dangerous opponent. I think people underestimate him. I will take my time with him and hopefully do the job well."

If Mousasi does win, he said he wants to fight soon, but stopped short of calling out any particular fighter, including Strikeforce's newest light heavyweight signing, Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal, who was just a few feet away from him in the gym.

"There are some good fighters. King Mo, I hear is a new talent. A match with him would be an exciting one, but it's not up to me," Mousasi said.

Lawal, who is rumored to be fighting for Strikeforce on Dec. 19, sees a fight with Mousasi as inevitable.

"Me and him are going to end up fighting. It's going to happen eventually. It's bound to happen. He keeps winning, I keep winning, it's going to happen," Lawal told Cagewriter.

Yeah. It ought to appease the "Where's the Strikeforce coverage?!" crowd and the "Do you guys even edit?!" crowd and the "You guys are so TMZ" crowd.
This was a very solid article.
Was Mousasi a good interview? He seems like he might be a little shy.
Oh...and by the way...you still need to do the TMZ crap every now and then to keep things light. This is a blog, after all...and I, for one, appreciate it.

Check out Bigfoot Silva in the background. That guy has a head on him. I mean...I know it's a medical condition and all, and it's not funny...but LOOK at that noggin.

Not seen Silva fight. Werdum isn't that bad is he? I'll probably be picking Werdum by submission, rd 2.

Yes. Thank you Mousasi for showing how a professional MMA fighter should think and act. He respects his opponent. He's not talking smack. He knows his strengths and how he can use them to win, but he's not overconfident. Great. Can't wait to see the fight.

Mr. T was just hanging out outside the gym? I take he can't afford a membership and was hoping one of the fighters would sign him in as a guest? Any rumor of him having a cameo in Rampage's cinematic masterpiece?

I feel sorry for Soko, he's going to get rocked big time.
How often can Ken Shamrock overstate the obvious?
Gerard is a special fighter and up and coming star who has been overlooked by so many. No kidding? You don't say?
I think Frank is suffering from a lack of intelligence and brain damage, and that's a bad combination.
    Thanks for the blogs Maggie.

Yeah. So much anger and rage out there and now? Nothing. No comment on the match-up. No comment on what this means for MMA going mainstream. No comments on Mousasi saying he wants to fight in the UFC. Nothing. Thanks for covering Strikeforce CW.

Darrell S and BNG...I've openly complained about not having enough coverage for this SF card. And I agree with you that some that have been complaining didn't have much to offer on this thread so it does make them look like they are b!tching and moaning. I liked this article but a lot of people just hate the UFC but don't know much about SF because they are not very well known. So they don't have much to say on SF blogs. Mousasi isn't very well known because he's not fought in the states that long. Silva, some may know and most know Werdum from the UFC. Most know Shields but may not know a whole lot about him. For me personally, I spoke up because I would like to hear more about the fighters fighting on CBS this Saturday so maybe I would learn a little more about them (like Mousasi and Shields). Using Fedor is a good way to get some of these other fighters some exposure. Just about any website you go to, you're gonna find more UFC coverage than SF coverage but it doesn't mean that the fans of MMA can't ask for more coverage for SF, Bellator, WEC. The more coverage these organizations get, the more they may grow. I just don't understand why it's scary to some people to have another MMA organization besides UFC. I don't agree with Dana bashing SF and other organizations. It would be nice if they worked together. It may have helped with these rash of injuries and too many UFC ppvs being booked.

My opinion is that this card matches up well to some of the recent UFC ppv's. I know SF is putting most of their top fighters on this card but seeing as how it's a strong card, I would think it deserves just as much coverage as the UFC ppvs. SF being on CBS is big for all of MMA. If they put on good, exciting fights and bring in more fans, it will help all of the fighters in MMA. This could lead to the UFC getting a broadcast deal if a station sees the potential for big ratings and allows the UFC to have more power in marketing and such. Imagine getting to see a GSP fight on NBC on a Saturday night. I think it would be pretty awesome.

Thank you JJ for a well-thought counterpoint. What I don't get is the vitriol so many used in their compaints that Strikeforce isn't being covered. Then, when two blog articles are written and posted, there are roughly 30 comments between the two. 30! The story about Pat Barry, who nobody knew until last weekend, has nearly 2000 comments! So, come on! Throw down some analysis of the article's topic. So many seem to have been yearning for an article in CW on Striikeforce and now they have nothing to say. It reinforces what many of the others have written about, that many on this blog just come on to complain. But when what they have complained is addressed, they have nothing to contribute. Come on guys! here's a Strikeforce article with substance. Contribute!

Dana White has stated he does not want a network deal right now. SpikeTV pretty much exists because of the UFC. SpikeTV's viewer share is increasing. Dana's not ready to move away from his fund source just yet.

I have a complaint. I can't believe this good match-ups are going to be shown FREE on CBS. This is a crime to the cable companies. I want Coker to get arrested ASAP. This is not right. No justice no peace.
Our complaints are toward the bias writers only covering one MMA organization. This is good see how peaceful it is.

Allen did you just need to make fun of somebody so you chose frank shamrock? sure, you and i already know that gegard mousasi was overlooked by many and is a great up and coming (not so up and coming anymore) fighter...but wouldn't you be saying the same thing to somebody on here who might be downplaying him? you have to admit there's still a ton of people who haven't heard of him right? do you think that because you have known this to be true for awhile now that everyone listening to frank say these things on saturday night (because i'm sure he'll say it again) must already know as well? i'm sure all of the cbs viewers already have their gegard mousasi face signs glued to their popsicle sticks ready to go. i'd hardly call that grounds for calling the guy unintelligent or brain damaged. i think he's a pretty intelligent guy actually. wouldn't you consider him to be one of the first true american mixed martial artists? one of the first of that title to be well rounded in such a young sport at the time? i'd say that's a mark of a man who's wise beyond his years or his time, just because the sport and the top talent is passing him by these days doesn't mean he can't do the right thing now and lay down some facts about one of the next big things for a fledgling company trying to improve their stock.
now don't get all butt-hurt or anything, just trying to spark some kind of life...or sign of on this thread.

Mousasi is a beast, and I've definately got him picked to win this one, but you can't discount Sokudju's power. He's young and a hot head, but he's also a very hard hitter with a good Judo base. Not that I think he'll win, but he could definately give Mousasi some problems, and if he lands a clean one, we could all be moving to upset city.
