Shamrock says brother beats Kimbo

The selection of Ken Shamrock, a UFC Hall of Fame member, as the next opponent for Kimbo Slice has, predictably, drawn great criticism.

Shamrock has lost five in a row and seven of his last eight and hasn't won since 2004, when he defeated Kimo Leopoldo. He's also 44 and will be just four months shy of his 45th birthday when he meets Slice in the main event of an Elite XC card that will be broadcast live on CBS on Oct. 4.

It's the second opponent Slice has fought on CBS with a horrible record. When Slice met James Thompson on Elite XC's debut show on CBS on May 31, Thompson came into the fight having lost six of eight.

But Shamrock's adopted brother, Frank (pictured), doesn't think Ken is in line to become yet another Slice victim. Frank Shamrock, who serves as a color analyst on the CBS broadcasts, said his brother has a legitimate chance to win.

The Shamrock brothers are not close, but that didn't stop Frank from conceding Ken has far more tools.

"Ken has 10 times Kimbo's ability, so if he can get just 10 percent of that, and he's focused, he can beat him," Frank Shamrock said. "If not, he's going to get clubbed horribly upside the head and fall down, all scary looking."

Slice, whose real name is Kevin Ferguson, only has three MMA fights. He's difficult for Elite XC to match, because he's just learning the game, but is by far its most popular fighter because of his street fight videos that are on YouTube.

He'd be beaten easily by even a mid-level heavyweight, and Elite XC, which is in grave financial difficulty and has lost $50 million in its 18 months of operation, doesn't want its biggest draw to be exposed.

But it also needs a name to sell as a headliner on CBS. Hence, the choice of Ken Shamrock, since Ken Shamrock was one of the pioneers in the UFC and is well-known to many from his days as a professional wrestler in the WWE.

Elite XC vice president Jared Shaw went a little overboard trying to hype Slice during an interview Monday with Steve Cofield and Dave Cokin on ESPNRadio1100 in Las Vegas.

"Standing up, he's the baddest man on the planet right now," Shaw said of Slice during the radio interview. "There is nobody who can stand with Kimbo Slice."

Frank Shamrock laughed when told of Shaw's comments. And, despite working for CBS, he admitted that isn't close to being true.

"It's primitive, it's basic and it's powerful," Frank Shamrock said of Slice's striking. "He's far from the best striker on the planet, in any combat sport. Striking is a finite art that takes some time to develop. You can look at his body and see he's not working on the art of punching."

There is nobody who can stand with Kimbo Slice..is this shaw guy serious? Ever seen kimbo throw a knee? a kick? He has ONE tool and to make such a claim about someone who has not only 3 pro mma fights but has never faced a top level competitor or striker is lame. He was lucky to come out of his last match victorious.

To say that Ken has a horrible record is ridiculous. He is 26 - 13. I get that Ken has had a run of bad fights...but look at the competition, Tito Ortiz, Rich Franklin, and Sakuraba. Not many fighters would run a gauntlet like that. I like Ken, he is a warrior and should be the guy to expose Kimbo...and hopefully he will get paid too. Great to see a UFC Hall of Famer in action!

EliteXC cannot afford to have Shamrock win this fight so if Kimbo wins, you gotta wonder if the fix is in. I'd bet on a 60 year old Shamrock to beat Kimbo.

Leave it up to a guy whose company is practically in the toilet to say some dumb stuff like that. How has he proven his ability of being the so called greatest striker in the world? Cantrell tapped before Kimbo touched him, Tank, well... he tanked and Thompson should have been stopped with elbows Slice clearly had an opening for not his busted ear. Thats it. If Kimbo wants credit for best striker, even knocking out Ken wont prove that.
But I guess you cant blame Shaw. I mean his real best heavy weight just got busted for steroids and he has nothing to go on. Most of the top heavyweights today arent even strikers, exceptions being Arlovski and Kongo. If you REALLY want to prove yourself you must be more, period. All Kimbo is is the modern day Tank. One punch wonder.

Yep, Ken will win...unless Slice gets a lucky punch or two or three in. I kinda like slice but lets face it, it's all name and that's lame.
EliteXC is desperate (and so is Shamrock). Ken will probably do anything including a payoff to get a paycheck. As someone said before, if ken wins it's gonna put a choke hold on eliteXC and they will be forced to submit!

Ken will shoot and Kimbo will go down. Ken will either throw an ankle crank or knee bar. Maybe even a choke. Kimbo loses in 55 seconds. Goodnite Kimbo and Elite XC.
Maybe Frank will jump up and fight KEN!!!! Now there is an idea!!!

Kimbo Slice is a chump. There is a couple of dudes that would beat him in elite XC, for example, Big Foot would walk all over Kimbo. Shaw should sell that bum to Dana White. Then White should put that nipplehead in the cage with Brock Lesnor. I bet Brock would knock him into the middle of next week. At leased XC would be able to survie another year off the money they get for Laimo Slice.

Kimbo does have a great coach though. Bas Rutten is an MMA legend. Bas is tough and Kimbo will have to answer the challenge of his coaching. Bas won't accept anything but a supreme effort. If Kimbo can stuff Ken on the takedown, game on!

If Ken Shamrock wants to win this fight he can however I doubt that happens. I see Shamrock going in there and being content to trade punches with Kimbo and get knocked out. Then going to the back a getting a nice paycheck from EliteXC.

The Ken Shamrock from ten years ago would destroy slice. The sad thing is he probably won't have the reflexes at this point to avoid Slice's punches. I'm thinking an early knockout will decide this fight.

Wow...Slice V. Shamrock....this is a joke. I hope Shamrock wins and ends the hype on Kimbo. I think Elite XC should sign the retired cop that beat Kimbo up (on YOUTUBE) for their next TV show and we can see that someone off the streets has better stand-up, not even to mention the numerous MMA fighters that have better standup. Shamrock just needs to be smart and jab and move until PizzaSlice gets tired out, then shoot. If he wants to stand toe to toe with Slice, I'll admit, it might get ugly.
