Bas Rutten has been at Kimbo Slice's side throughout his odd journey in mixed martial arts. He vented to Yahoo! Sports this week about how Kimbo has been treated poorly by much of the media in the aftermath of knockout loss at the hands of Seth Petruzelli:

"Kimbo didn't deserve any of this. Kimbo didn't put himself in the main event. I always said let him get some fights. Let him get comfortable before he fights big shows."

Rutten spoke passionately about laying off Kimbo:

"Did he behave himself bad in public? No. Did he not train hard? No, he did not. He respected everybody. (He's saying) I'm a little squirrel in this big world trying to learn this game."

Rutten said the whole day for Kimbo and his camp was confusing. Kimbo got caught off guard after training for groundwork against Ken Shamrock. Rutten said he actually would've felt better had Petruzelli tried to take the fight to the ground. He also admitted that normally the Petruzelli knockout punch shouldn't takeout any fighter but Slice just got caught the wrong way.

Rutten had some good insight when asked to react to claims that Shamrock bowed out of the fight on purpose:

"Ken had some things going on. I don't know if I can go into that. But his head wasn't in the right place. He was kind of angry and trying to blow off some steam. He started working out and rolling around. Obviously, they rolled harder than they were supposed to go and boom there the cut was."

But really Kimbo should of known of what he's getting himself into knowing he was a youTube icon, everyone is going to want to see what he gots so dont put it on the fans or media. He walked into that himself.

WOW! there goes all my respect for Bas. I was reaching for a hanky till I realized Kimbo has made over a million dollars perpetrating this farce while a lot of these hard working legit MMA fighters are eking out a living on chicken scratch.

Knuckles, exactly ... "Perpetrating this farce" says it all. Anyone with any real knowledge of MMA knew that Kimbo was a poser and that this farce was a bs media hype job. Yet, how many clued MMA fans actually believed Kimbo was for real? Many!!!

Yeah, I can see the Kimbo train making a stop at the WWE....maybe we then could see a fight with "Sham" rock.

Don't understand why Bas even addressed the 'issue'. Either way he comes out a clown or just another would be ringmaster for the circus. You don't have to be a hater of KS to know that he was not (nor likely ever would be) even professional MMA undercard material. He got his money and more power to him. If he garnered the interest of those subject to vain fantasies, no great harm done.

Bas, I know Kimbo was your boy and you are trying to defend not only him but yourself for taking him on and training him, but be serious, he got caught wrong. I watched some of his you tube fights and he appeared to get hit harder and cleaner, and by larger guys there than when Seth hit him. I wasn't and never will be a Kimbo fan, but what a lame excuse. There are only 2 reasons why that punch knocked him out, 1- Kimbo has a weeker chin than everyone thought or 2- DIVE. Maybe he took the money ( you know the extra money Elite gave him for fighting a different less, oops "more" dangerous fighter in Seth) and ran. Had he not been hyped so much, used his real name instead of a WWE stage name and started off on undercard fights against real competition, maybe he wouldn't have soo many people who hate him.

    Holiday-
seriously, man... what's ur deal? We get it- u don't like Dana White, ufc, Bas Rutten, Kimbo Slice, anyone named Cotoure, or anyone or anything associated with mma. So just go away... it's not like all ur friends here will miss u or anything.
I would prob. pay to see u fight dana white on pay-per-view though. Either way, somebody gets the a** kicking they deserve (Personally, I have nothing against Dana White, he's a former athlete turned shrewd businessman... but he does have his shady moments)

I halfway agree with Bas. Kimbo has always been humble about his fame, just happy to get his 15 minutes and retire off the idiots paying him. He's a great american dream kind of story. From homeless to an episode of cribs practically overnight. Good for Kimbo- I'm happy for him. plus, he got mma some mainstream publicity- whether he was the fighter who deserved it or not. The down side of that is that he is, of course, a poser (by any mma standard) and in that sense, kinda makes mma look bad...

i think you lot are a bunch of penis's honestly i cannot believe what i am reading, kimbo is having ago at making some money by doing what he is good at, and that is fighting, he is trying to make some money for himself and is family is there anything wrong with that? at least he is in there having ago and trying to learn mma by one of the all time greats bass rutton, you make me feel sick to the bone, i am a coach and i can see the potential in this guy he is strong fast agood puncher and he as a big heart and he trying to better himself, anyman who fights bare handed for money is a warrior i bet you lot cannot fight your way out of a wet paper bag, if you are a fighter i do appologise for suggesting you dont fight but its you who makes me sick the most, it takes time to learn how to fight for real and you should know this. i bet you dare not fight him! any of you the only fighting you probely do is on the x box, give him a chance lads he trying his best and hes in there and he is entertaining. i hate people who disrepect fighters for trying there best if these sort of people did not fight where would mma be today.
