B.J. Penn is an amazing talent but is he on the level where size simply won't matter in his fight against Georges St. Pierre at UFC 94? GSP will probably climb into the cage tonight with a 15 pound weight advantage. By the sounds and looks of it, GSP is not your normal welterweight when it comes to brute strength. The guys rolls regularly with 205-pounders Keith Jardine, and the division's title holder, Rashad Evans. "Sugar" told Cage Writer that GSP is no joke:

"You'd be a fool to believe that. That dude is stronger than most of the 205ers I've went against. Whenever we go, it's a battle."

This GSP may feel much different than the one Penn faced in 2006:

"Not only is he too strong but he has the strength that lasts. It's not just one of those guys who is strong and it dies out after the first round."

Evans thinks it's important for GSP to mix things up and when they do exchange on the feet, St. Pierre has to be the last one punching.

It also sounds more and more like Evans will face the winner of Lyoto Machida-Thiago Silva. Evans is excited to get a shot at Machida and he joked about how to actually track down the very elusive Brazilian.

If you hate on Machida because of his fighting style..then you're not a real mixed martial arts fan. You're just a brawling fan.

If it weren't for GSP's size advantage I say BJ would win rather easily. Even with the size advantage I think BJ will win by TKO.

GSP is to strong and never gets tired so he will just use his weight and ride BJ all around the cage, Thats his plan, Hes not going to trade with BJ until at least the 3rd round and by then BJ will have nothing on his shots. Rashad knows what hes talking about when he was training with GSP it was like "Wow" this guy is the real thing, He is a machine. I expect some dirty stuff from BJ like eye poking and some low blows and hits behind the head because when he sees GSP staying strong by round 3 he will panic and he will start getting dirty and hope they stop it. Time for the medics.

BJ Penn's no stranger to fighting bigger opponents. He fought Machida a couple years back.

I love Rashad... he is awesome, and I think the fact that GSP has that type fo strength that doesn't wear down over a fight is and will be the factor that wins him this fight.

GSP and BJ are really on the peak of their careers, I'm a big GSP fan but man BJ is just way to talented than GSP.. GSP is very athletic that he could like lets say mix all the aspects of the game and still come up as best.. it looks like he has everything, the skills the cardio, the smarts, but BJ PENN is BJ PENN, he is just talented and add the fact that he faced someone of the Franklin caliber, Machida caliber, sherk caliber.. he has learned his lessons..he is now training to fight and not traning because he wants to.. his cardio is doing good.. his boxing is superb.. but if im gonna score this card i'd aim for bj on 3rd round submission, or gsp for decision

People are talking about how GSP is as strong a light heavy weight, and I totally agree with that statement. With that said at the same time there forgetting that BJ Penn is just as strong. Randy Couture said one time that when he spared with BJ before he had a hard time taking him down. Somebody as strong as Couture saying that about BJ that has to mean something. So I really don't think the size, and strength of GSP will be as much of a factor as people saying it is. As far as who I think will win that's a toss up to me because this fight is to close to decide.

Monkeybusiness, nothing bothers me more than arrogant comments like that. I have been watching MMA since I was 13 and my buddy's older brother got the UFC on PPV. I have trained boxing, muay thai, and BJJ. I love MMA and am probably just as knowledgeable about it as anyone you know.
And I can't stand Machida's lame karate fights. Outpointing a guy is smart and effective, but boring as hell. You can be an MMA fan and still like aggressiveness.

Barely, Dusty. He managed to take Machida down and keep him there longer than other people have. Machida's knocked out Franklin, stopped Bonnar on cuts, choked out Soukoudjou, and worked Tito Ortiz. BJ took him to a decision. I think BJ will take it.

Daniel i'm pretty sure randy was quoted as saying he had such difficulties taking bj down due to the dexterity in his legs and just overall flexibility, not his strength. no doubt randy couture is stronger than bj penn, it's his natural gifts that make things difficult for people against him. and no doubt gsp is significantly stronger than bj, but strength doesn't always translate the way people think. for example, because you possess sheer strength doesn't mean you have ko power....often times it does, but they don't always come hand in hand. and the same goes for the chin. those are different kinds of strengths that can't be measured by how much weight you can move.
and the weight difference is probably going to fare better for him than it did in their first fight. don't think for one second they were the same size then either. bj's frame is made to be a lightweight so when they fought before all that extra weight from 155 to 170 was likely to be very little muscle mass and mostly fat/water weight (and he was cutting very little thus regaining very little after weigh-ins), supported by bj's lack of conditioning in the past. now that he's lighter he's still got the same strength and faster speed that he dominated gsp with in the first round, and he's got less baggage to carry around with him coupled with better cardio to sustain that pace. i think bj definitely has the advantage with his physical gifts, confidence and skillset, he just needs have the gas tank to apply it for up to 5 rounds if that's what it takes.

You Penn man lovers are funny, Who hasn't beaten Sherk? Can't wait for the whiny he was robbed posts on here tomorrow, Oh wait when he's knocked out there will be no talk of robbed, You talk as though Penn is some god, he's just a fat headed Hawaiian who is so in love with himself it's annoying, He's a great fighter sure but all your reasons are silly, "He's very flexible" so was Mary Lou Retten and most figure skaters, his conditioning is always in question, and lets talk about former fights-HE LOST TO JENS PULVER, GSP just crushed Fitch, he's probably not that good right? Once Pierre wins which fighter will come into the ring crying like a little girl being a jackass asking for a fight instead of letting the winner enjoy the moment? Oh wait Penn will be having smelling salts shoved in his fat mug thinking about coconuts and hula dancing.

If you post comments like this then you're not a real MMA fan. "If you hate on Machida because of his fighting style..then you're not a real mixed martial arts fan. You're just a brawling fan." I don't like Matt Hughes style either, does that mean I'm not a real MMA fan?

booblover you offer up a pretty weak argument. it's obvious you're just a gsp fan, or more likely a kid who got picked on by a guy....or a bunch of guys with bj's attitude and now you want to stand up for yourself via gsp's talent and hard work. hope it works out for you buddy, keep loving boobs, i'm sure you get all kinds of'em
