What a turn of events down in South Florida. Unable to get a doctor's clearance to fight Kimbo Slice on CBS, Ken Shamrock is out. He suffered a cut in training this afternoon. Shamrock's cut required six stitches over his left eye.

EliteXC scrambled to find an opponent on the current card. They convinced TUF2 alum Seth Petruzelli (9-4, 0-2 UFC) to step up and take the fight. The Florida-native was scheduled to fight Aaron Rosa. Petruzelli fought at heavyweight during the UFC's reality show, The Ultimate Fighter and is now fighting at 205 lbs. He is a real mixed martial artist and may pose a bigger threat to derail the Kimbo train than Shamrock did.

8:55p ET UPDATE: MMARated's Ariel Helwani is reporting the fight will be Kimbo v. Petruzelli.

CBS/EliteXC were in a terrible position here. They had to deliver some sort of Kimbo fight but they didn't have a complete tomato can on the card to protect Kimbo. Give them credit, they rolled the dice with the 28-year old Petruzelli. The guy has fought on the biggest stage losing to Matt Hamill and Wilson Gouveia in the UFC. He's also a lot bigger than Shamrock. Shamrock weighed in at 206 lbs. Petruzelli cuts weight to get to 205 which means he'll likely be 215-220 after rehydrating.

Kimbo's people clearly recognize the threat or they're greedy as hell. According to Yahoo! Sports Dave Meltzer, Slice and Co. were demanding more money to fight Petruzelli.

Petruzelli has a solid kickboxing and wrestling background. His wrestling is the key. Hopefully, he's smart enough to realize that Kimbo must be taken to the ground. What a blow to EliteXC and Kimbo if he can't beat the sixth best fighter from the heavyweight field on The Ultimate Fighter 2.

I agree boys. It sounds a little suspicious to me. Any contact training should have not been going ahead on the day before the fight.
Is it any wonder that Elite XC is losing $2 million a month? They got what they deserved by digging up the corpse of Shamrock, and using him for name value only.

It sounds suspicious because Shamrock had second thoughts about taking a dive

In my opinion, in the end Shamrock didn't want to take the dive that Elite XC wanted him too, especially to a brawler of the calibre of Slice. I think his pride got in the way, and there was no way that he would allow himself to get beat by Slice. Losing to Tito is something he could live with, but taking a dive to Slice would haunt him to his grave.
The fact that Slice's men immediately asked for more money to fight soneone else shows that they are concerned that they might have a real ( or more realistic ) fight on their hands. Unfortunately I still think that Petruzelli takes a dive to continue the Slice charade.

A little suspicious is an understatement how convienent that he gets an injury right before the fight. Was probably set up like they do in pro wrestling where they would cut themselves in the head with tiny hidden razor to cause bleeding. But just goes to show what a joke Elite XC is the sooner they go under the better.

I'll be nice and leave up the free plug for the off-shore book. If you like the dog, betting Petruzelli off-shore is where to go. With all the MMA wise guys in Las Vegas, the Venetian re-posted the odds with Kimbo as a -270 favorite. He is double that at some off-shore sites. The squares must pound MMA at the off-shore books.
As for the Petruzelli being a 'tomato can' comment. The Vegas folks have money riding on this and they slashed the Shamrock price almost in half. So Petruzelli can't be too bad. Can anyone argue that Kimbo could beat any of these TUF2 cast members? Petruzelli, Dan Christison, Rashad Evans, Brad Imes, Keith Jardine, Mike Whitehead, Tom Murphy or Rob MacDonald. Keep in mind, almost all of these guys fought after the show at 205.

Cofield, it's only fair that you allow plugs for the off-shore book considering your shameless shilling for the Venetian Sportsbook. Each week you post odds from the Venetian, and mention them by name. If you weren't a shameless, hypocritical shill for the Venetian, you wouldn't mention their name.
Let me guess, they give you a free $50 each time you mention their name. You surely couldn't be gambling with real cash on your blog wages.

    Cofield,
Did you ever think that the reason why the price was slashed in half is not because Petruzelli is half bad, it is just that not as many people ( or as you like to put it, the " wise guys " in Vegas ) are as sure that he will take the dive that Shamrock was DEFINITELY going to.
We already saw one farce go according to script, and that was Carano not making weight and being allowed to fight regardless.
Perhaps the wise guys aren't as wise on this one considering that this fight might actually resemble MMA a little more than the WWE, where next months results are already known.

I could easily write a book about this but I will keep it simple. Kimbo Slice is only going to ruin MMA with events like this!!! The Kimbo lovers may believe the man behind the curtain but true MMA fans can see the truth!!

I would like, no love, to see Kimbo back on the In The VIP website working security. Thats where he belongs. He is tough but by no means is he, or will he ever be a MMA professional. And the talk of Tito signing withing the week with Eite would be the worst move he could ever make in his career. It's not a matter of when the orginization will fall but when. I don't speak for anyone but I don't know if too many would disagree, there will never be a substantial amount of people that will buy a Elite Xc PPV. So they will go under.

Obvious Fix!!!!! I had $ on shamrock. Petrusmelly might not be a total can but why wouldnt he take the PAYOLA!! He cant be makin too much being a pro fighter. Elite xc is the worst thing to happen to MMA, its bringing the masses and then promptly living up to all negative stereotypes about the sport. I shut it off as soon as i heard the BS, so their ratings would suffer but the "OL BAIT N SWITCH" worked and im watchin, Now I even hate Gina Coranno. ELITE XC "mixed martial entertainment"
PS bettors: great line on daley shields fight. TAKE SEMTEX, better odds than bimbo SHAMrock fight.

    Boxy,
The one good thing to come from this is that Elite XC are losing money by the truckload every day. They foolishly thought that UFC were an overnight success, and they tried prostituting the sport for their own financial gain, and without a thought for the sport, the fighters and the fans.
Love or hate Kimbo ( I am not a fan of his ), he is in this for fame and fortune, and is getting his 15 minutes of both. Good luck to the guy. It is Elite XC that is shamelessly marketing him as a legitimate MMA fighter, and trying to fool the ill-informed. They are getting their just desserts however by losing money hand over fist. At least their is some justice.

I'm really getting sick of everone complaing about Elite XC! Everyone can't afford to watch every UFC payperview, and to be honest, alot of the times the matches suck on UFC too! I would hate to know I shell out alot of money and saw a bunch of overrated fighters put on a [profane]ty show. You should applaud Elite XC for trying to put on quality entertainment without having to pay. I know everone of you "so called" MMA superfans are the watching Elite XC tonight, so quit trashing Kimbo, and Elite XC! If you don't wanna watch, shut the hell up and go jack off to Dana White.

Since when did Elite XC and quailty entertainment ever go in the same sentence?
The fact that the only reason you, and most others are watching it is because it's free disqualifies your usage of Elite XC and " quality entertainment ".
If you wouldn't pay for it then it can't be too attractive a package. Same thing goes for hookers.

Right you are Brian M SHAM!!!!!. And for the poor Jason W. It's not about being able to afford UFC events, for your info they do show up on Spike for free eventually, it's about the respect MMA deserves. Elite Xc is ruining the sport for those that may not normally watch. They make it out to be somthing it is not. It is a up and coming professional sport and they make it into a WWF like show. I don't always like Dana White and his moves but at least he dosn't put on a show with fight that "appear" to somtimes be fixed. I don't have much money either but I live for MMA and find a way to see every fight even the ones that aren't that great. CBS will drop it so get ready to pay for live or wait for the tape. LIVE WITH IT!

    HEY JASON W
every wed . night on spike free MMA, trust me if elite XC could put on a halfway decent show theyd charge 60 bucks too. Some of the best mma fights ive seen have been between 2 guys i never heard of. Take a lesson from UFC/affliction/ wec/ and just about every other regional show and put 2 TOUGH AND SKILLED guys in a cage and let the chips fall where they may. I stopeed watching wrestling when WCW merged with WWF because it got tooooo ridiculous, elite xc is worse!! OH yeah you can also see these expensive UFC SHOW on the internet live for free SEARCH!! Im assuming you have high speed internet if not go to starbux
BTW kimbo is already makin excuses and looks scared, he must not be aware of the FFFFFIIIIIIXXXX!!!!
I aint hatin on KIMBO, definitely a tough SOB, I just dont like someone tellin me dog food is fillet mingon

WTF??? How the F do you manage to hurt yourself before a big fight? Thai Boxers and regular boxers never get cut or rarely hurt themselves during training before a big payday.
    Totally unprofessional!
I don't know who this guy Kimbo is supposed to fight. I am p*ssed that I waited through all of the hype for this let down.
