There were plenty of big name fighters hanging out at the Strikeforce weigh-in on Friday including the promotion's heavyweight champ. A 224-pound Alistair Overeem bolted for Japan after his big win over Paul Buentello back in November of 2007. After some overtures from the UFC (also appeared on Dana White's UFC 93 vlog - 6:12 mark), Overeem is sticking with Strikeforce as his stateside promotion.

He told Jarry Park's Ariel Helwani that he's on the St. Louis card on June 6. He did not name an opponent but Strikeforce sources indicated that Brett Rogers might be the opponent if he takes care of business against Ron Humphrey tonight in San Jose. Overeem mentioned Affliction fighters Fedor Emelianenko, Josh Barnett and Andrei Arlovski as desired opponents in the future.

The now 253-pound Overeem is an imposing figure at 6-foot-5. Over the course of 22 months, he's graduated from the 205 division to become a big heavyweight. At the 2:10 mark, Helwani does a good job of addressing the steroid rumors swirling around Overeem.

The June 6 card is looking pretty solid. The main event is Robbie Lawler versus Jake Shields. Phil Baroni is slated to fight Joe Riggs. Babalu is on the card against Rafael Cavalcante.

There are at least 2 fighters that the UFC must sign: Overeem and Belfort! (yea, yea, Fedor too, but they won't get him, so forget about Fedor-----) However, both Overeem and Belfort would fight for the UFC. And I'd argue that Overeem at 205 could give the top players trouble. And Belfort at 185 would give Anderson a run for his money. Personally, I think Belfort *could* beat Anderson---or, at least, he would be a million times more worthy of the fight than Leites or Cote (both are total clowns).
Nut, you want to see an MMA guy who can actually strike--watch Belfort! He has an untraditional southpaw stance with serious KO power. Nice, clean, crisp striking--good foot work, good head movement.
The only potential down fall to Belfort is that, last I heard, he was training with Randy in LV. And, well, lets just say that I don't think Randy and his camp is "tops." But, those of you who know me have heard my reasons for that claim, thus I shall not repeat them here.

And, yes, I am aware that Overeem is currently fighting at heavyweight (but he can fight at LHW, and he has done so in the past). And, yea, the guys he talks about fighting are not UFC, but don't buy that crap. He is with Strikeforce, so he cannot say he wants to fight with the UFC or with UFC fighters. But it will happen. If White is jazzed about him, it will happen. Wait until his contract is up, then he will be fighting in the UFC.

Again, training in any heavily aerobic based sport and packing on that much in poundage of muscle is impossible without help. Also, the puffy cheeks are a dead giveaway. Probably loads of GH and other ancillary roids. He must have a good 'physician'..

Yea, you are right Nut. If you look at his 205 pics, he has a different face. And it ain't baby fat that is being lost. Perhaps Overeem spends most of his time in Japan because they don't care about GH???

I have a hard time believing Overeem isn't juicing, a real hard time. But since I still live in America and not in Red China, i'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt and consider him innocent until proven guilty. It is looking to be a good fight on June 6, but I think using Baroni vs. Riggs is a bad example. How are they gonna bill that fight? Washed up loser vs. Washed up @sshole? The match which will finally determine once and for all who is the most washed up!

i have mixed feelings about overeem. I wouldn't want to see him fight my favorite hw guys, Fedor, Couture, Mir, etc but I wouldn't mind having him face other giants like Lesnar or Carwin. Overeem's head looks weirder than 2004 Barry Bonds.

So he juiced, so what? I like orange juice and carrot juice but you don't see me be ridiculed. I like sex with strangers in dumpsters but does that make me a "freak?"
    Stop it, just stop it!
