It's go time, New Yorkers. The vote to legalize MMA in the Empire State will happen in the coming days, and if you want to see MMA in your home state, you need to get involved. Contact your representative in the Assembly -- if you don't know who it is, look him or her up here -- and tell them why you want MMA in your state.
Though you can find plenty of statistics to support our cause here, they have heard those from the UFC's lobbyists. It's better to tell them your story. Say how MMA has made an impact in your life. If you fight, write about what the sport has taught you. If you coach, work at a gym, write about the sport, or have ever been employed because of MMA, point that out to your legislators. If you're a fan, tell your legislator why you spend your time and money following MMA's every move.
If you don't live in New York, call your friends and family in New York, and ask them to call their representative. Other than that, there's not much we can do except hope that common sense has taken hold in New York, and that Matt Serra, Rashad Evans and Jon Jones will get a chance to fight in front of a home crowd.
