Veteran MMA fighter Jeff Monson pleaded guilty to graffiti-related charges stemming from a picture that was published last year in ESPN the Magazine (right) of Monson spraypainting an anarchy symbol onto the Washington state Capitol. Monson pleaded guilty to the Capitol charge, and entered an Alford plea on the charge for graffiti at an armed-forces recruiting center, meaning that he doesn't admit guilt, but does believe that there is enough evidence that he will be convicted.

Monson, 38, is scheduled to be sentenced in October, with the prosecutor recommending 90 days in jail. He was also slapped with a $21,894 fine for restitution. However, the crushing blow for Monson is that he was forced to hand over his passport. He is reported to have fights scheduled in Russia and Japan in early 2010, and won't be able to travel for them. When asked to turn the passport over, he asked the prosecutor, "Are you going to support my family now?"

Monson's last three fights have not been in the United States, but the idea that he won't be able to find a fight within the U.S. is just silly. His name has drawing power, and there are plenty of shows that would clamor to have Monson on their card.

They probably won't pay as well as the Japanese and Russian shows, but Monson should have considered those consequences before he whipped out the can of spray paint and defaced government property. His graffiti may have been an act of civil disobedience to bring awareness to anarchy, but, as he well knows, acts of civil disobedience are frequently punished.

In an anarchy, no one would pay him to fight. Sad story but any kind of professional with a career to maintain and a family to support should have quit this activity before leaving high school.

This dude is a clown. anarchy doesn't need capitalism, i.e. he doesn't need to fight, i.e. why fight if you are an anarchist?? if you fight for money, and pay taxes on it, you are a capitalist pig.. here or overseas. i see a stand off and large caliber rifles in this idiots future. anarchy was a decent punk band. as a political paradigm it is on the short bus of all sociopolitical models. grow some horns monson and stop letting the tail wag the dog. you come across as such a follower, trying so hard not to be one.

I wonder if we're going to see Monson-Fedor on M-1's card in late-August, since M-1 appears to be ridiculously defiant when it comes to the EA Sports and co-promotion issues. Or maybe Fedor-Rogers instead.
I hope they do it and bomb. Fedor needs to ditch those parasites.

They only announced the EA deal today. Are you sure Dana knew about it? Because someone specifically asked him at a press conference if Fedor was included in the "everybody but Randy" that would be blacklisted if they signed on with EA Sports. Dana said everybody meant everybody.
Who wants to buy that game by the way? Just play Fedor v. Randy all day every day? Fun.
Also...If you're an anarchist and show up to court to enter a guilty plea and agree to be bound by the sentence imposed, you're pretty lousy at being an anarchist.

Patron: Monson has college degrees out the a$$.
Common sense would be to know that spray painting the State Capitol would be counter-productive.

His name has drawing power? are you joking mags?? seriously, maybe at a clan rally or disenfranchised angry white mans festival. other than that, he is a fighter most mma fans dont care about, let alone the 'common' fan.

    Nutcracker...I mostly agree.
It's not that he doesn't deserve name recognition...He has plenty of good wins. But he hasn't fought for a major promotion in the US since his loss to Sylvia in 2006.
He was on that RJJ hybrid card though...and he choked out Roy Nelson, who is no slouch. He's actually on a 7 fight win streak with some decent wins in there (Nelson, Rodriguez, Kharitonov).
So while he's probably worthy of a fight with a promotion like Strikeforce or maybe even UFC, it's not like he'll break the bank the way he would over in Japan. They love guys like Monson over there.

Wow, 21k to repair some spray paint damage. Anyone still wonder why the government is broke?
This story is jumping the gun a bit. They took his passport, but will most likely give it back as soon as he completes his sentence. He should be able to make those fights.

Im sure he did it for the magazine shoot...i doubt he walks around w/a can of spraypaint in his pocket. Couldnt they just make him clean it up...seriously thats pretty harsh fine/punishment for that.

wow almost 22K fine for that spraypainted symbol, harsh. The good side is that outside of Dream Many international MMA shows are not shown. Being forced to work in the states makes it better for me to get to see him fight. I am a fan of his. I am sure Nut probably hates the guy and his stand-up game is almost zero. Still I said after Josh tested positive for PED that I'd pay to see Monson vs Fedor.
As far as his anarchy goes, when you hear him talk he sounds more socialist, and spraypainting the capitol, whith an ESPN crew in tow was just stupid.
