Matt Hughes makes his predictions

At today's question and answer session, Matt Hughes made some surprising, and not-so-surprising predictions. He  spoke for more than hour with UFC Fight Club members before the weigh-ins at the Chicago Theatre. The highlight of the session actually had nothing to do with Hughes. Robbie Lawler came out for a brief second and said that he is hoping to fight in the UFC soon.

First, Hughes let us know that he and Serra will be fighting in mid-April, and his wife doesn't want him to start punching until Serra's blood is on the canvas. He also said that he thinks Brock Lesnar will beat Randy Couture, and that B.J. Penn will only beat Georges St. Pierre if Penn is in the best shape of his life.

Hughes also shared his opinions on some non-fight issues. He told us that he doesn't like women's MMA because he doesn't like women getting hit. My thought is that childbirth is more gruesome than anything that can happen in the Octagon, so women can handle a punch or two.  After being asked, he also mentioned that he will be voting for McCain.

My favorite point was when he mentioned his lovely two-year-old daughter. He is already planning to be cleaning his gun whenever her first suitors stop by. If that young man isn't intimidated by his name and career, I bet that the guns won't scare him, either.

matt hughes has always been one of my fav mma fighters (mostly because of his wrestling background and incredible conditioning), even if he is past his prime now. being the veteran that he is, i have to respect his picks concerning couture/lesnar and st. pierre/penn- also agree with both opinions. not fond of his political backing, or lack of interest in women's mma... but not surprised by it, either. matt comes across a very conservative, family first type of guy- which is respectable, just not my thing. which makes it ironic that he has such hatred for serra, but w/e. plus, he's rich- of course voting republican is in his best interest. either way, always good to see or hear from matt hughes- one of the best- all time.

He hates Serra because Serra had the guts to call him out on his BS bully behavior. Serra also clowned him repeatedly on the way he acts and what he says. Should make for a good fight.

Commendation to Jay on his restraint in addressing those evil republicans. They're just greedy rich people or wanna be rich people. Hey, I wanna be rich too. Where do I register?

Ah, Hughes is hugely wrong. It's women fighting WOMEN. not men. As long as it is not the latter than it's fine.

I'm not really a Hughes fan but I hope he crushes Sera. Women in MMA is cool. I'm not rich but as long as we're getting mildly political here, I'm with him on McCain/Republicans. I can deal with being called evil.

tonka, a little known fact is that when zuffa took over and put rules into mma john mccain came out with another statement; "the sport has grown up. the rules have been adopted to give its athletes better protections and to ensure fairer competition". i am a die hard mma fan but even i didn't like it so much when there were no rules back in the day. i remember one fight where a guy got punched in the sack like 10 times until he was forced to tap out. human [profane] fighting indeed!

True, but I don't want to hold hands and be best of friends. I want him to punch people in the head.

    Tonka-
hate to agree with a republican, but unfortunately, Kenneth is right about that McCain statement. I still don't think McCain Likes mma; but at least he's not trying to outlaw it anymore. So that's not really a valid reason not to like a candidate. Now- if it' s cuz he's gonna raise ur taxes, and give ur hard earned money to politicians and the other 5% of the country that already makes more than they know what to do with, and leave u broke... that's a good reason.

Seriously you disallusioned Democrats make me sick. You either don't care or are ignorant about the politics of Obama and McCain. Obama wants to raise taxes on the upper 5%, McCain doesn't want to raise taxes at all. Guess what, the upper 5% employ 70% of the nations work force. What will the upper 5% do if their taxes are raised? Those proposed raises in taxes affect YOU the workers. IF the upper 5% had a tax reduction what would that do? Generally, they invest back in their businesses which affects YOU. Obama also wants to raise taxes on anyone making over 250K, that includes small to mid size businesses, AGAIN that tax hike affects YOU. McCain doesn't want taxes raised on ANYONE! Lastly, everyone wants to blame Bush and republicans for the economy. Do your research people. The economy was fine 2 years ago, everyone was happy. Explaination for the uneducated coming.......

Congress who passes 90% of laws was ran by Republicans 2 years ago when the economy was at its greatest highs and gas prices were low. 2 years ago YOU elect a Democratic congress and since that point gas, inflation etc has been on a steady rise. Furthermore, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac home loans were made easy to obtain during the Clinton administration. (Google 1999 New York Times article on Fannie Mae for all the proof you need about the Fannie Mae situation and who is to blame.) Democrats want to brain wash you into believing Republicans have made these decisions. Democrats want to make decisions for you, tax you and take your money. Republicans want you to make your own money, and make your own decisions. Vote Democrat if you want to, but look when OUR country was prosperous and it wasn't when Congress was majority Democrat. Facts are facts!!

#17 & 18 The Great White, You said it well. It's amazing how many voters will take to the Polls and have no idea what's best for the country. I recently mirrored this conversation with my boss and he could not understand the entire Republican - Democrat congress and who passes laws/sets precedence for the country. If Obama gets elected and is able to carrout his tax plan........WE'RE ALL SCREWED! Democrats can hate on Bush all they want but I have to say thank GOD Bush was in office for the last eight years and not Gore or Kerry. Can you imaginme Gore running the country after 9-11? Protest the war in Iraq all you want but the world is a better place without Saddam and his regime inflicting their iron fist will. Can we Americans imagine living under that Tyrany?.?.
    Vote McCain!
    Silva wins
    Sherk wins
    Kos wins

Grappler84 - If the only reason you would vote against McCain and for Obama is because of his stance on MMA, then God help us! Besides that, if you would do your homework/research you would see that McCain was for regulating the MMA world. Back in the dark ages, MMA was unregulated. Now it is sanctioned and has a governing body, steroid testing etc. McCain isn't trying to ban MMA anymore. Seriously, people like you hear something uttered years ago and carry that and only that for your opinions. I hope people like you don't say something and have a change of opinion years later, only to have your friends and family not let you change your mind. Heaven forbid....

Because Matt Hughes has an extensive knowledge of the issues? And he cares about more than what's in HIS short term future? I'm sure. If you're going to bring up anything other than mma political issues in this section, go somewhere else.
That said, the problem is with his lack of support for any national standard for mma rights. Hell, when he loses on Nov. 4, he'll probably stir up some trouble back in AZ, and get state-based ban on one of mma's hotbeds.
