I'll push the envelope as far as anyone but some stuff is just taboo. Right now is way too soon to be ripping out the Evan Tanner material. The UFC fighter died just 18 days ago. Frankly, I don't think his death will provide chuckle time EVER for many people yet these two YouTubers think Tanner's death is primo comic relief. Better yet, Spike which worked closely with Tanner (published his blog) and I assume benefitted nicely in building a web audience, found this immature piece suitable for its own website.
UPDATE: IT APPEARS THAT SPIKE GOT WIND OF THE VIDEO AND PULLED IT SOMETIME ON FRIDAY. ONE PIECE OF INTERESTING INFO ABOUT SPIKE.COM, IT IS OWNED BY IFILM AND USERS ARE FREE TO POST THEIR OWN MATERIAL. APPARENTLY THE TANNER MOCKING VIDEO SLIPPED THE THROUGH THE CRACKS.
This from FullContactTalk. Nice job in tracking down one of the head honchos at Spike:
Full Contact Talk just spoke with David I. Schwarz (Vice President of Communications for Spike) regarding the controversial video that was uploaded to Spike.com mocking the death of UFC fighter Evan Tanner. Spike immediately yanked the video from its website once it was viewed internally.
“When the video caught our attention, it was immediately removed from our website. We were equally appalled by it as Evan was a close friend of the channel, said Schwarz.“
The video which is unfortunately still available on Youtube.com was uploaded by two wannabe MMA analysts that seem to film from their parent’s basement. Known as “Tagteam Supreme,” host Justin Blank referred to his sidekick during the opening monologue as the ghost of Evan Tanner. The language and supposed humor used within the video is considered outrageous by the vast majority of the mixed-martial-arts community.
Jason Blank and a guy calling himself, 'The Ghost of Evan Tanner', pull out their 'best' material before giving some fight picks. Some of the not so funny lines include:
The 'Tanner guy',"having coyote paw prints on his back where he was humped."
"He goes out 200 miles from any town, runs out of gas, supposedly he's this brilliant intelligent guy and he doesn't see this coming?"
"The sad part is Evan Tanner goes out on a losing streak against 'Da Spyda' (Kendall Grove) he lost and now mother nature. Now he's like all those p**sies in Louisiana."
"Isn't it odd that he was an alcoholic and ends up dying from dehydration."
"Chicks don't care for beards but coyotes love'em."
YOUTUBE STILL HAS THE VIDEO POSTED. You can watch after the jump.
You can't control what people get to post on YouTube or the net but isn't it a little ridiculous for Spike to be giving these two kids facetime? Instead of a tribute to Tanner before Ultimate Fight Night 15 why didn't Spike just give these two guys the bigger platform and let them tell their 'jokes' on national television? This video placement is bizarre considering Spike has a headline banner with a tribute montage to Tanner just above this entry and huge Tanner photos down each side on its UFC page.
