Lesnar critics targeted by White

Seconds after the Brock Lesnar-Randy Couture fight was announced last week, the debate began. Plenty of Lesnar critics came out of the woodwork. Even a pre-teen was pissed about "The Next Big Thing" getting a title shot. Yahoo! Sports sat down for an exclusive conversation with UFC president Dana White just after UFC 88 had ended and he went on the offensive against the Lesnar's critics.

"After the Heath Herring fight, who would you rather see him fight now? Trust me people will go chirp, chirp, chirp...the night of the fight everybody and their uncle will tune in."

White left Atlanta on Sunday to head to Cancun for a sponsor event and will be seen next in Omaha for Ultimate Fight Night 16 next Wednesday night. You can hear the entire White interview here.

Once again people....Dana White does what he wants! Yeah, Lesnar has a shot to win.....But he should have faced Congo or someone else and earn his way up. This is all about marketing and money! Typical Dana White! Many will say it is good for MMA popularity....and it is, but it is at the expense of those fighters who fought their way up the ladder only to be leap-frogged by another of Dana's Boys!

Hey, Cofield. Why don't you go to Matt-Hughes.com? Since you made an a$$ out of yourself with your last post about Matt Hughes, why don't you point out that he was the first fighter to pay tribute to Evan. Not only that, he defended Rashad's dancing in the ring. Pay it forward, Cofield!

In all honesty i believe he should have faced KONGO first. But since Couture is back DANA would like to make the quick bucks that he can by making this match before Couture is completely over and done with. Their will be critics everywhere but what if Lesnar does win, then what?! Ever thought about that.

Chano...I haven't heard of anthting for Tanner from the UFC but I'm sure they will. I think if Lesnar wins it will be him vs. Fedor in Canada....Or, they will line up Lesnar with Congo and a few others and make $$$ off weak PPV card with Lesnar on it!

Dana is such a tool. If he doesn't want the majority of the MMA world to dog his monkey, make him earn his spot, instead of just handing it to him. Just go ahead and give him the belt and call him champ. He isn't making him earn anything else. I was a Lesnar fan. I might be again one day, if Dana would stop babying him. This God complex that Dana has is gonna cost him what he needs most, US. The true MMA fan is what makes his house payment. Good, legit fights is not too much to ask for, is it?

All the what-if's about the Lesnar-Couture fight are for nothing. Couture will win. Dana is right, I will tune in, hopefully Randy will beat "THE NEXT BIG THING'S A$$", there's also other fights on the card worth watching.
What's the big deal with Evans celebration? All fighters pretty much celebrate after winning, GSP usually turns a back flip and then does some resemblence of a break dance, Liddell (when he was good enough to win) threw his arms back and ran around the ring like a horse, Anderson Silva has his dumba$$ little dance, Lesnar acted like an idiot celebrating before the fight was over. All the Liddell fans are upset they had to watch Evans celebrate after.........well we all know why.

Lesnar is in a win, win situation period. Win and you give a "legend" a crushing defeat = everyone talks about it. Lose and everyone still talks about how long he hung in there with a "legend" = everyone talks about it. Either way BOTH fighters are getting paid big money for this fight and the only way to pay them is to have a BIG draw. Lesnar is the only HW out there that does that because half the people want to see him pound the p!ss out of people and the others tune in to see him fail.
BTW, how does Randy still have three fights remainig in the UFC? I'm pretty sure he only had one maybe two at the most remaining on his contract when he "retired." I tried digging around from past articles but couldn't get an exact #. Is this part of White's arbitration settlement with Randy? Sign for more fights and "I'll make the Fedor fight happen." Can you say dangle the carrot in front of the horse?

Derrick M, your comments are foolish. You wrote that if Brock beats Randy it will show, "that this new breed of fighter is just too well rounded for one trick type of fighters. Wrestlers don't dominate the sport anymore." I do agree with both of these statements. There's no denying the truth and logic behind them. However, if Brock, with his wrestling-only background and general lack of other fighting skills/techniques, beats Randy, who started as a wrestler but has constantly evolved into a multi-dimensional and well-rounded fighter, it will show just the opposite. If Brock wins it will show that wrestlers/"one trick type of fighters" can still sometimes beat the new breed of well-rounded fighters and can still dominate the sport. Randy might be old, but he is one of the original pioneers of fighters who adapt their original styles and add to it whatever helps them win fights. Now everyone entering the sport cross-trains in martial arts because they saw the success that Randy and the other pioneers have had. So, other then Randy's age, he is one of the most ideal poster-boys for your "new breed" of "well-rounded" fighters. I believe that Brock is also part of the new breed of well rounded fighters, because he's training dilligently in BJJ and striking, but I think we can all agree that Brock is not very well-rounded just yet.

so did any one happen to think that this may have been the only fight that randy would take before his contract is up? i mean he only wants to fight fedor so why not just be happy and entertained it will be a good fight and get to see him before he is done with ufc i think it is smart and gunna be a sweet fight to watch but thats just me, maybe you all shouldnt think about who he jump and all so fast i mean the only name out there is kongo, mir and noguera are coaching tuf so there are the only other 2 heavy weights in the ufc that matter

Gotta agree with matt r. with everybody whining about Lesnar getting an early shot, there's one voice I dont hear.....Couture's!!! Yes he's a great champion that doesn't run from anyone. But he's also at the end of his career and would like to make some $$$$ before he leaves. I don't think he minds at all taking this fight, in fact, given the choice of UFC heavyweights, this is the one he'd probably handpick.

for the betting folks, Lesnar -115 and you can also bet that the fight won't go past 2:30 of the 3rd round. I see another Evans vs Liddell knockout coming. The younger/faster fighter knocking out the slower aged fighter.
I don't see why they would make this Couture's first fight back! If they signed him for a three fight deal. He's going to lose and it's going to be bad. The only reasoning I can come up with is that he'll lose this fight and have a better chance at ending his career with 2 wins in a row or atleast one win to end it.

    machida is the best LHW.
unless Spider goes up to fight him.
underrated fighter is Franklin, i think Franklin can probably beat 96% of all LHW. Underrated middleweight is Palheras, he can probably beat the overrated bisping, leben, etcetera....
If BJ penn works hard on his stamina and not get tired he would probably beat GSP, but he will have a very very hard time...
the most underrated heavy weight is Brock, even though brock does not have alot of fights or experiance i really think he would still destroy 97% of all heavy weights.
the only way brock can really lose is if that someone is a very very high skilled jiu jitsu and brock gets sloppy.
i hope couture wins, but i think his in big trouble deep down.

too early for a title shot for lesnar. i mean he should work his way up on the ranking to get a shot. just because he's "brock" they already pitted him on the champ. that's unfair on the other heavyweight contenders. look at what forest griffin did. he work his way up, bearing elite fighters on the way. brock only has 1 win on the octagon, he doesnt deserve the title shot, yet. but of course money runs the show, ryt?
