Jackson got lucky and Evans is a prick

Not everyone was thrilled that "Rampage" and "Sugar" were the big winners at UFC 92. Ultimate Fighter 2 alum Mike Whitehead says Quinton Jackson landed a lucky punch. Whitehead thought Wanderlei Silva was timid in the fight. He couldn't understand why Silva didn't attack the way he does in the gym against Whitehead. I won't answer that. I'll let our fine message posters respond.

That said, Whitehead gave Jackson the soft touch before he unloaded on Rashad Evans:

"I hate the way Rashad goes out and (expletive) carries himself. He's almost as bad as Tito (Ortiz) now. I don't know how he can say he's a good ambassador for the sport when he goes out and does that (expletive). He's kissing his glove and touching his (expletive)."

Is anyone other than Forrest Griffin's buddies worked up about Evans' behavior? Whitehead is talking about the way both fighters carry themselves in and out of the cage. Is there an issue with either? Amongst media members you could have quite a throwdown in a debate about who's better for the sport, Griffin or Evans? I can only say that I've had good experiences in dealing with both fighters.

Whitehead also goes off on Brock Lesnar getting a shot at the heavyweight title after just three professional fights.

Mike Whitehead talks a lot and that's about all he will be remembered for instead of ever being a champion like the people he puts down.
So I hear by give the nick name of "SOUR GRAPES" to Mr. Whitehead.
Jackson punches as hard as they get and didn't get lucky.
Enough said why even bother to such nonsense.

Dic4days you dont know what the heck your talking about. Dana white doesnt promote Anderson Silva???? He is always freaking talking about that guy and calling him the best pound for pound fighter in the sport (which is true in my opinion).
If you actually followed the sport you would know why Brock got the belt when there was a pending interim belt fight. Im not gonna explain it to you , you can look it up.

Steven W, and Great White. Now this is what I'm talking about!!!!
. Let the angry white fighters/fans begin... I am not throwing race around to make a debate that does not exist., You cannot deny it is a tacit underbelly of the current MMA/UFC demographic. My pointing this out makes me a racist?? Especially my being white?? And someone like Matt Hughes is hunky dory?? It is not just sour grapes if you will. It is sour grapes with an ugly under current and fear of black men in this sport... I am just the messenger. If you cant see it, you are sadly myopic and naive. Was Liddells' post fight celebrations and funky appearance so appalling to Whitehead. Just the guys name alone is comical, all puns intended...

Dana white has been screaming for a long time now Spyder is the best in the world. If you haven't heard you either do not watch and cannot read.
Rampages punch was not lucky, it was well timed and set up.
Evans kiss thing did not sit well with me either. Griffen has shown him nothing but respect and the show boating was uncalled for. I agree to a sense, i think the trash talking and lack of respect is a portion of what killed boxing, would hate to see it happen here. He has a few more dumb things to do before he catches Tito, but everything he does like Tito, just makes it that much better when he gets caught, and probably will make him less attractive to promote.
Dana white is not known for liking sharing the spotlight with people who try to step in front of him.

And just maybe Mr. Whitehead , Wandy comes at you harder than he did Page coz you are a softer touch in the Octagon. Just maybe coming at Page that way will have consequences.. Like eating a left hook with your chin on a pedestal. Something you probably aren't capable of capitalizing on in the gym. Thus Wandy comes at you guns a blazing, knowing you cant fire anything back with your limited ability.

Everyone in the sports bar I was at including myself cracked up at Rashad's little move. It's so weird how people enjoy the antics of other fighters, but go nuts when Rashad does it. I just figure it's because he's beat two of the sport's most well likes fighters in decisive fashion.
As for the Silva KO, I came home and re-watched it online multiple times, and it looked picture perfect and extremely well practiced. In Dana's video blog Rampage talks about how he has a guy in his camp who fights just like Wandy, and it showed.

First, if anyone out there has spent more than five minutes around Whitehead they would know that he is one of the most cocky SOB's out there. Dude constantly acts like a clown and always maddogs people. Now he comes out saying that he doesn't like the way Evans carries himself? Dude you hang and represent the most egotystical gym on the planet!! What about your boy Jay Heiron? Junie? If you think calling people out will get you a match; try winning one first. Try eating your own dog food before flapping your gums!!

Evans was wrong to do that in the cage (To kiss his hand and grab his stuff). Right when he did it, I felt it was very disrespectful. A guy like that can't do that in the ring and then shake his opponents hand and say he respects him, his actions show disrespect, and insecurity. I was rooting for Evans, and glad he won (I don't think Forrest deserved it against Rampage), but Evans' actions speak loud to those who have common sense. He holds distain for other fighters when he acts like that. No one who has true respect for their opponents does that in the ring.

Dynastay, you may be right, I have no way of knowing for sure, but watch some videos of Tommy Morrison and Mike Tyson knockouts. You don't have to be looking at a guy's fave to know where it is, you see it in boxing all the time. I saw a move land that was drilled over and over based on Wandy's wild swinging.

Dynasty.. Maybe Wandy should learn to tuck his chin and not stand there begging to be KTFO. All Page did was come forward, duck down, and throw a hook knowing Wandy would be there to catch it. If you ever sparred in any meaningful way you would know the instinct to throw that punch, and have the faith your stiff opponent would be there with his chin in the air. That is not lucky, that is instinct and fighting IQ..But I dont doubt there are tons of guy like you out there calling Evans KO of Liddell lucky too. Gee, maybe it has to do with a lack of talent (and or defense). It has to stop being lucky after it happens repeatedly doesnt it??? Dont you see a trend there ??

BearDown gives me a little bit of faith someone out there gets it. And this dude is in Vegas, so maybe he knows what the real dilly is.
As for post fight celebrations. This is MMA, not a polite karate exhibition.. It is meant to entertain and people watch it to see people get KTFO. It is a mix of all disciplines and the notion that there must be some sort of code of conduct in a sport that is a mix of so many is an oxymoron.. Not everyone wears a belt and bows to their teacher. Dana White himself is the antithesis of respect and politeness. So you cant have it both ways.. What is good enough for the boss must be good enough for his minions. So go get Tito and his shovel. You may not like him, but he helped build this boat..

It wasn't a lucky punch. I'm not sure about Wandy anymore. His only recent win is over Jardine. He needs to get it back together. Evans antics in the Gon against Griffin was nothing to get upset over. Most every pro athlete has their arrogant side. Barry Sanders was about the classiest Pro athlete I've seen. The guy wouldn't even spike a football in the end zone....he just tossed it to the Ref. There aren't many athletes like that anywhere in any sport. Back to MMA, Liddell had a little Flex celebration (when he was winning ) the Spider has one, GSP turns back flips and does his best imitation of one of the three stooges break dancing, Lesnar was a complete idiot in the Herring fight.....who cares about the celebration or antics in the ring.?.?

Whitehead is like 23-6 or thereabouts.. Obviously from his photo he eats a lot of shots (scar tissue and scars) and probably has built his record on the backs of hacks. I hope 'Meathead' gets the chance to get KTFO by Evans.. Judging from his grill, he is a catcher.

post fight celebrations?? sure, mid fight? your an idiot if you think there is a place for that. it lands there with the hold a choke/go for a break before the extension on a lock not giving a chance for a tap. says no class, no respect, nothing.
win and wanna dance and toot your horn?? fine. Want to make this the street brawl for the politicians to shut it down on the [profane] fighting call, go away. Evans went over the line. Until he shows respect to opponents, i will never root for him. Will never buy a fight he headlines.

colin c....... Not breaking a choke or sub isn't even in the same category as a post fight celebration/dance. Come on now. Let's not fall down that slippery slope of irrational debate. He shows respect as long as he gives props to his opponents corner and gives a hug, dap, hand shake, [profane] or whatever to his opponent before leaving the 'gon which he has done each time (even Chuck when he checked on him because everyone thought Chuck was dead). With that said I still feel Evans is a standup cat but like every successful fighter; his entourage has to go before they suck him dry. Entourage's are the downfall of every athlete just ask Tyson (where do you think he got his drugs from). I supose you are against the end zone celebration (or sack, int, big play,) in football? How about the goal celebration in soccer? That's in the same category. If you don't like the dude just say it but don't make up a story to justify it.

Forrest should have respected Rashad enough to throw punches that Rashad had to use all his effort to block and evade. Instead Forrest was using soft, lifeless punches, and Rashad got tired of it. Rashad's rude gesture was his way of telling Forrest that this was an actual professional fight, not a game of face pattycake. And Forrest still didn't do anything about it.
I'm way more put off that Forrest spent all that time in the gym devising a strategy of taking the fight to the judges, instead of trying to put Rashad's lights out. If he had worked on throwing power punches and Pat Barry style legkicks, he might have retained.
If a UFC fighter ever comes out on a Segway with a EVERYBODY SUCKS BUT ME banner trailing behind it, showboating will have gone too far. But until that time, it's all in good fun and only the tight-asses are going to make a stink about it.

NOooooooooooooo, i said post fight celebration i accept. joy and random, awesome.
Mid fight show boating like the kiss, I hope someone kills him. not beats him, ut makes a vegetable out of him, if that is the direction he will take the most visable division. he will screw this sport up since now, he is the guy up and comers will emulate. Sport follows that path i will put it in my ignore pile with NBA, NFL, and boxing.
