Sometime in 2010, EA Sports will jump into the MMA world, releasing a video game that will rival the THQ entry, UFC Undisputed. They gave a first look to MMA media this past weekend, and we're finally allowed to talk about it.
Now, one thing to keep in mind as you're reading this is that I'm a complete n00b when it comes to gaming. The last fight game I played was Mike Tyson's Punch-Out on my Nintendo. That being said, I was impressed by the game.
First, Strikeforce is a premier league of the game, meaning you'll see Strikeforce logos, and Strikeforce announcers. As you can hear in the above clip, Mauro Renallo will be screaming at you as you play the game. That also means that quite a few Strikeforce fighters are involved, including Brett Rogers, Fedor Emelianenko, Jake Shields, Jason "Mayhem" Miller, "King Mo" Lawal and more. John McCarthy is the ref of choice.
The movement of the fighters is lifelike and true to form. Video-game Brett Rogers' punches are big and loopy, just like real-life Brett Rogers. VG Fedor's footwork looks like real Fedor's footwork.
The fighters are also programmed to take damage. In one clip that they showed us, Rogers began to limp after taking a particularly nasty kick from Fedor. Also, fighters know where they are in the cage, and act accordingly. They drop their hands when sent back to their corners.
To me, the coolest thing that they showed was that fights aren't confined to the cage. They have several different environments for fights, including a ring, an open-air dojo in Brazil, a regular MMA gym with open mats, and more.
The game will be available for both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, and will be available sometime in 2010.

Dana knows he screwed up on this one. THQ won't be able to hang with the type of resources and game-development talent that EA is rolling with.
Any chance you can unlock Blanca to fight Fedor?

I think Strikeforce should get rid of Renallo (lol I know I'm not alone on that). If it was just Gus Johnson and Shamrock, it would be pretty good, and better than Goldberg and Rogan.

Does M-1 show up and take half your stuff? Do spooks from the Russian Mob sit at cageside just in case you try to win?
Now THAT would be a game...a kind of fighting/first-person shooter hybrid kind of game.
Remember how in Metroid, when you beat Mother Brain, you still had to bust it out of there before the place blew up? Well...in this game...if you beat Fedor, you have to sneak out of the arena, pack up your family, and run for the hills like Butch from Pulp Fiction before the KGB puts one in your brain.

not sure if anyone caught it but i think shamrock was poking fun at gus during saturday's broadcast. leading up to the mousasi fight, gus made several references to bjj and bjj techniques....very general, but references nonetheless (as if he had a clue). then when mousasi went to the ground he said something like "now watch gayhard, he is amazing, i mean AMAZING off his back, his jiu-jitsu skills are blah blah blah." then shortly after when mousasi pulled that great trip/sweep from his back shamrock said "gus i bet you appreciated that one, that's jiu-jitsu 101!" yeah, not too funny reading it back but the sarcasm in his voice was classic. gus didn't really respond, i'm sure he got the point.
