Sometime in 2010, EA Sports will jump into the MMA world, releasing a video game that will rival the THQ entry, UFC Undisputed. They gave a first look to MMA media this past weekend, and we're finally allowed to talk about it.

Now, one thing to keep in mind as you're reading this is that I'm a complete n00b when it comes to gaming. The last fight game I played was Mike Tyson's Punch-Out on my Nintendo. That being said, I was impressed by the game.

First, Strikeforce is a premier league of the game, meaning you'll see Strikeforce logos, and Strikeforce announcers. As you can hear in the above clip, Mauro Renallo will be screaming at you as you play the game. That also means that quite a few Strikeforce fighters are involved, including Brett Rogers, Fedor Emelianenko, Jake Shields, Jason "Mayhem" Miller, "King Mo" Lawal and more. John McCarthy is the ref of choice.

The movement of the fighters is lifelike and true to form. Video-game Brett Rogers' punches are big and loopy, just like real-life Brett Rogers. VG Fedor's footwork looks like real Fedor's footwork.

The fighters are also programmed to take damage. In one clip that they showed us, Rogers began to limp after taking a particularly nasty kick from Fedor. Also, fighters know where they are in the cage, and act accordingly. They drop their hands when sent back to their corners.

To me, the coolest thing that they showed was that fights aren't confined to the cage. They have several different environments for fights, including a ring, an open-air dojo in Brazil, a regular MMA gym with open mats, and more.

The game will be available for both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, and will be available sometime in 2010.

Well, I guess they can't use "undefeated" for Rogers' promos anymore.....

Im not much of a gamer. But if what you said is true, then yea i think the game will be solid. Lets be real though... I think they will only have about 20 known fighters. and the rest will be unknown for the most part. Thats even if they have that many in the game. That being said i hope the game is better than the ufc one. but we cant be to harsh. these games will take time before they get to be amazing

Looks like a better game than the UFC one, however with not as many fighters. Technically, it should be the game that's important, and not the fighters, but I think I'm not the only one who'd say I'd really want to play as the big name guys.

Also ... I note that Fedor is significantly less fat in the game than he is in real life. Just saying, is all.

Fedor will probably be unstoppable like Bo Jackson on Tecmo Bowl or Barry Sanders on Game Day 98.

tube09 - Arlovski should be the same since he isn't really over the hill, though there are those out there who have tried to spin it that way. As for Werdum, he actually should be rated higher in this considering his striking has been improving since his second win over Gonzaga. And no, an in shape Werdum in strikeforce isn't the same as the out of shape Werdum who fought Dos Santos.

Though granted, in retrospect, Arlovski really should be brought down a bit after that Rogers ko. But based purely on skill level, keeping the 88 isn't unreasonable, just as long as those 12 other points he doesn't have is based on a low rating for that chin of his. :p

considering EA's games that copy off of others normally suck... ill be staying with Undisputed. EA's NBA is worse than 2k9... Madden was terrible compared to NFL 2k6 until the bought the NFL rights which in turn took more away from 2K sports than it did gain for EA. ea can sucka my taint. not to mention they turned down UFC's offer since mma wasnt "a real sport". screw EA and strikeforce.

People buy these games because of the loaded "Named" fighter roster and the known high level of talent. EA and Strikeforce don't have either, so it looks like it's going to be a smashing failure. At best, it will turn a few heads but probably won't touch Undisputed in sales. Not taking anything away from Fedor, but he can't carry this game by himself, and who really cares about Arlovski anymore?

I can already tell that Mauro Renallo will be unbereably irratating when playing this game. I'll still buy it if the reviews are good enough.

Has someone ever explained why Mauro Renallo is on the announcing team? What does he offer? March Madness king, Gus Johnson, is pbp, Shamrock provides the color and helps breakdown a fight, but I'm still scratching my head at what Mauro Renallo does, is he just a hype guy or something?

Yeah, but Couture can carry it. I think this game will be successful, and will do a lot to bolster SF's image and give their fighters name recognition.
Dana knows he screwed up on this one. THQ won't be able to hang with the type of resources and game-development talent that EA is rolling with.
Any chance you can unlock Blanca to fight Fedor?

Kyle - Yeah I'd say for hype. Renallo is still trying to hold onto his status as a former pride announcer. Thats when he was at his best as play by play, and even then he was only good, not great. He was no Steve Quadros, whom he replaced, but then again, no play by play commentator today is on the level of Steve Quadros.
I think Strikeforce should get rid of Renallo (lol I know I'm not alone on that). If it was just Gus Johnson and Shamrock, it would be pretty good, and better than Goldberg and Rogan.

Question is...What happens in this game if you try to fight Fedor?
Does M-1 show up and take half your stuff? Do spooks from the Russian Mob sit at cageside just in case you try to win?
Now THAT would be a game...a kind of fighting/first-person shooter hybrid kind of game.
Remember how in Metroid, when you beat Mother Brain, you still had to bust it out of there before the place blew up? Well...in this game...if you beat Fedor, you have to sneak out of the arena, pack up your family, and run for the hills like Butch from Pulp Fiction before the KGB puts one in your brain.

i can't believe that some people are mentioning gus johnson's name without an expletive attached to the beginning or end. even though i dislike mauro thoroughly due to his consistently over the top comments and ridiculous comparisons, he's still been a student of the game and has learned quite a bit.....agreed he's no "fight professor" quadros and never will be, but i choose mauro over gus any day, he's clueless.
not sure if anyone caught it but i think shamrock was poking fun at gus during saturday's broadcast. leading up to the mousasi fight, gus made several references to bjj and bjj techniques....very general, but references nonetheless (as if he had a clue). then when mousasi went to the ground he said something like "now watch gayhard, he is amazing, i mean AMAZING off his back, his jiu-jitsu skills are blah blah blah." then shortly after when mousasi pulled that great trip/sweep from his back shamrock said "gus i bet you appreciated that one, that's jiu-jitsu 101!" yeah, not too funny reading it back but the sarcasm in his voice was classic. gus didn't really respond, i'm sure he got the point.

Rob...there you go again being hilarious....ha. metroid was one of the best games ever, along with zelda (original), and i was also a mega man fan myself. does anybody know exactly who those rasputin lookin' guys in the cage after fedor's fight were? the two long-bearded guys that came in and kissed his forehead kinda freaked me out....but nowhere near as freaky as when jean-claude was in his corner after one of his wins (i forget which one, but semi-recent...maybe sylvia?). did anybody catch the still shot of JVD giving fedor his man-crush gaze? priceless.
